Say what? Did you find a 6800?

I'll add you when I get home I don't have it on mobile anymore.

So I’ve got all my parts for my PC build and need some advice on the last part. Bought a 5600x cpu and 6700xt gpu. Any suggestions on motherboard? There are so many choices it’s a little overwhelming

In my opinion, picking a motherboard is easily the most overwhelming part of planning a build.

I would start with a video like this and go from there: LINK

If you have any specific wants or needs, just post them and we can see if we can work through things.

I guess you have to ask yourself, what do you want your motherboard to have?

- built-in WiFi/BT?
- great built-in audio?
- a ton of USB ports?
- superior VRMs for overclocking?
- active/passing chipset cooling?

I have a 5600x, and honestly, the cheapest B550 board will work just fine with it if you are running at stock settings.

I got a B550 board for $100. You’ve been pretty budget minded with every other piece, so I figure that’s what you’re looking for.

With some caveats, though. I would literally never own a motherboard that didn't have *at least* debug lights, but ideally debug codes. I also likely wouldn't own one that didn't have a dedicated clear cmos button. And having a sans-cpu bios flash ability would likely round out my list of must haves. There could be something else, but I can't think of anything at the moment.

Even ignoring higher performance concerns like vrm and pcie lanes, those quality of life features are worth the $30 it would take for me to get to something like this:

Though they very well may also exist on cheaper boards that I'm not aware of.

You go way overboard with some of your thought processes

But I guess when I started building you had to get ultra premium stuff to get those features. You were lucky to have any of that on Z67 boards

So, I definitely don’t deny your accusation

But yeah, those features aren’t luxuries now. That’s a $130 b550 board, but you can probably find most of them on something cheaper. But I’ve experienced first hand how useful those features are. My first build? Managed to not fully plug in the second 8pin on my gpu. But the first was plugged in, so the RGB still came on. Without debug, I would have spent the better part of a day trying to troubleshoot that idiocy. And half the DIY community figured out how useful bios flash was when Zen 3 came out, which required a bios update that you could otherwise only do if you already had a Zen 2 processor installed. And clear cmos is more advanced, but I think it’s useful for anyone who so much as wants to flirt with ram timings, because who wants to stick a flathead into their case

$30 or so for all that peace of mind? Easy choice for me.

No need reallY for WiFi or Bluetooth. I’m a newb so I don’t really know what overclocking is. I’ve been eyeing the asus rog B550 F and the white one that’s an A. I like the look of the white one because my case and a few other components are white

Bluetooth is always a nice option to have nowadays for controllers, keyboards, headsets, etc, but you can always buy a cheap USB adapter if you ever need it

Cheap Option. Should run 5600x at stock settings, even with some overclocking. Lacks BT/WiFI:

LINK

Medium Option. Should handle any 5600x overclocking without any issue, has 2.5 GB LAN port, and 1 G LAN port. A ton of USB ports. No included WiFi/BT.

LINK

Pricier Option. All the bells and whistles, and frankly overkill for a 5600x - WiFi 6/BT, RGB everywhere, 2.5 GB LAN, good built-in audio, etc..

LINK

Frankly I would not pay over $200 for a B550 board if you are running a 5600x.

I paid $189 for my B550 ITX board for my 5600x build, but frankly all ITX boards have a price premium added.

For your purposes, go with the cheap one or the medium. The B550-F WiFi board is frankly overkill.

So I can get the B550 asus rog for $165. The same price as your medium option if that makes any difference

Also another question. The 5600x comes with a cpu fan and my case came with 2 fans. I have the Corsair 4000D. Any need to get anymore fans?

Maybe a 3rd for an extra intake/exhaust, but you should be fine with just two. Most people overexaggerate on cooling needs

4000D airflow or non? With a gpu with a tdp of 230w, I could live with just one intake fan on the airflow version, but I wouldn't be super happy about it. On the regular version, I would absolutely want at least two intake fans.
