Intel unveils their GPU, will be branded under Intel Arc, releasing Q1 2022. LINK
Anybody else grabbing the new jersey?

Intel announced this morning that it would bundle its new high-performance graphics hardware, software, and services under a new 'Arc' brand, with the first discrete gaming graphics cards and new GPUs for notebooks coming to market in Q1 2022. The company also launched a new arc website with some additional info (not to be confused with its "Ark" spec site), along with some videos of its newest Alchemist GPU playing a few games.
The new Arc branding will persist across several generations of Intel's discrete GPUs, with the first graphics cards, previously known as 'DG2,' now codenamed Alchemist. Intel's first high-powered discrete gaming graphics cards will be based on Intel's Xe-HPG (High Performance Graphics) architecture. Future generations of Intel's discrete graphics cards will be named Battlemage, Celestial, and Druid.

I wonder what it hashes at.

No telling, they're just mid range GPUs.

Looks like RDNA3 will debut displayport 2.0, would assume Nvidia too. Wonder if they even mess with HDMI2.1 with such little adoption, maybe for one more gen?
Probably our last one for quite some time, DP2.0 is 80Gbps (48Gbps hdmi21). Can run two 8K HDR 120Hz monitors at up to 30 bit color.

So, I've been toying around with the idea of getting a gaming PC to put in my living room for couch gaming. I was excited about the Steam Deck, but I want to game in 4k 30-60fps on a large tv.
Assuming (i) I'm not ready to undertake building my own, and (ii) price isn't really a concern, what do you guys think about the CORSAIR ONE a200 Compact Gaming PC?
I'd mainly be using it to played modded Soulsborne games and other modded RPGs. Do you think it'd be easy enough to just plug this thing into my TV with an HDMI cable, and then (presumably) use a wireless K/B to navigate when not using a controller?

Do you already have a main gaming PC?

Nope! Just consoles (PS5, PS4 Pro, PS4, One X, Series X, and Switch).

Ah I don't know why I thought you did.
I plan on using my Steam deck to stream games from my gaming PC to my 4k TV

Looks like AMD is starting to discount Zen 3 more, clearly getting ready for the refresh announcement next month.
$389 Newegg 5800X. Damn good deal.

One day processor upgrades will be worth something again. There would have to be a steep technology improvement for me to upgrade
This graph is quite telling

Link?
A 2080ti at 4k is already going to be dying in all but the best of cases, so depending on the game, yeah, I could see it being gpu bound through the last decade of processors
Now, gpu upgrades are still way more important than cpu upgrades, but you do see improvements running a 3080 between, say, a 3600 and and a 5900x. The gains don't scale well with the money, but they do exist. And from a 2200G? Stop it
What I'm most interested in is seeing if AMD can deliver on their 3d cache tease.

Ok, that chart has a 3600 running slightly better than a 5900x. Now I'm just calling bullshite on their entire testing methodology
Posted on 8/25/21 at 10:37 am to Joshjrn
It's techpowerup, so it's not like they have some bullshite agenda to push.
But it still goes to show that at 4k res the processor doesn't matter at all (to an extent obviously)

To an extent, absolutely. Though as someone running (for now) a 3600 with a 3070fe at 3440x1440, I actually do find points where I stutter because I hit a spot that just so happens to be cpu heavy. The most recent jarring one is a spot with falling cherry blossoms in CP2077 right at the beginning of act 2.
But anyway, at its core, I agree. People should never, ever, sacrifice gpu power to get a better cpu, at least just for gaming. Dropping from a 3080 to a 3070 so that you can bump from a 5600x to a 5800x is insanity. But at which point you're already comfortably at a 3080, spending a little more on your cpu will improve performance. Now, your average frame times won't see much of a bump, but your 0.1% and 1% lows will markedly improve.

I may grab the refresh, 8700K getting a bit long in the tooth these days. Double digit FPS.

You're at 1440p still right?
Posted on 8/26/21 at 10:01 pm to bluebarracuda
Ya.
I really just don't want to finally upgrade case/mobo/cpu and in literally 8 months Zen 4 will be here with DDR5.
Just seems smarter to wait I'm just impatient and have the itch to tinker.
