The owners are pocketing the revenue sharing money without putting any of it back into the club. Sure they supposedly have these great prospects coming up but given how the owners are behaving right now how do we know they won't just sell them off to the Yankees and Dodgers right before they have to pay them?

Whats the point of funneling money to overpay has beens? Just take your lumps for a few years and rebuild.

I don't know much about the Astros farm system just going by what I've heard and addressing the "wait 5 years" argument they go to.

Taking your lumps is one thing. A 25 million dollar payroll is something else.

I conceded the farm system discussion in the OP. That's really not the point of this thread.

I'm just curious why Astros fans are so blindly optimistic when the new owners have slashed payroll so drastically.

I understand the "build from within" concept, but this is ridiculous. They are clearly just looking to pocket the revenue sharing money. Not a good sign for a new ownership group.

The fact that they're rebuilding. They hired Luhnow who turned the Cardinals into having the number one farm system.

Again rebuilding is one thing. A 25 million dollar payroll is something else. They have basically said they are totally fine with losing 105 games for the next 3 years minimum while we cash these checks the big market teams are writing us. How can you possibly spin that as an ownership groups that cares about winning?

So you'd rather them waste money on veteran contracts?
