Who cares? This "bandwagon" bullshite is insanely stupid. It's sports, who cares what reason someone has to like a team?

I tend to agree. If someone really only roots for teams because they are good and changes alliances when the team sucks, they're the ones missing out. Sports would be a lot less fun that way.

I've always thought, picking a team as YOUR team, to which you otherwise have no logical connection, is silly.

Me too. (Most Yankees and Lakers fans.)

I don't see how you can become attached.

How are the Cowboys a bandwagon team? The Cowboys have one playoff win since 1996. The Celtics aren't really a bandwagon team either. They've mostly sucked for the last 25 years outside of a brief three or four year run in the late 2000s.

but extremely common if you root for the following:

Yankees
Cowboys
Red Wings
Lakers/Heat/Celtics
Manchester United
Duke/KY basketball
ND/Alabama football

There just aren't many people who start randomly rooting for a team that isn't all that good... but plenty of people who start rooting for name teams that were winning at the time

I don't really know of many Bama fans outside of Alabama, though. That team doesn't have the national appeal of ND, USC or Miami.

It's one thing to casually root for certain teams out of the blue. It's another thing to act like you're some sort of long standing dyed in the wool die hard of a team from a city or school in which you may have never even set foot, much less have any sort of genuine connection to.

The Cowboys are generally the team for children, so it's not unheard of for adults that can't seem to get past that and have a mind of their own.

Simple people are simple.

you'd be surprised at the number of Alabamians who conveniently root for who ever is better in this state. Auburn seemed to have a lot more fans when they reeled off 6 in a row over Bama.

But there are also plenty of fans who didn't actually attend either college so that doesn't surprise me.

when Saban came to Bama, a lot of Tide fans seemed to come out from hiding while others just seemed to flip the switch. I don't know about northern Alabama though. Things are so much different down here on the coast. I think the rivalry is annoying as frick personally.

the SEC pride thing has also really taken off here lately. Growing up, I never saw an Alabama or Auburn fan cheer for a Florida or a Tennessee in a bowl game. But they sure as hell do now. Damn things sure have changed all of a sudden.

I would root for everything but the Jaguars myself if I were in Jacksonville.
