ND/Alabama football

still hung up on the man united thing, you already proved you don't know shite about soccer. The best team in the world goes back and forth b/w Madrid and Barca for the most part. When it comes to picking euro soccer teams its a free for all b/c none of us are from there. Since i moved over here my german team is my local 2nd division side.

It would be awesome if you stopped being such a leaky vagina. But since you won't... yes absolutely.

A guy from West Virginia with no connection to that team who then starts rooting for Manchester United absolutely qualifies as a bandwagon fan in the same way a guy from West Virginia does if he roots for the Cowboys, or Lakers, or Red Wings, or Yankees.

If you feel like that list was directed at you it is only because you are a bandwagon fan.

Discussed in the other thread but your whole argument against people who bandwagon seems to be they just choose a team or player that is doing well BUT THEN you choose Manchester United instead of Liverpool and Arsenal (The only other two teams you mention as possibilities for you to see on television). Well, by your (again self identified timeline and self identified limited possible teams you could root for) you chose the winningest team available when you became interested in football.

That's a bandwagon fan. And frankly there's nothing wrong with that unless you happen to be a hypocrite who gets all pissy because you don't like other people who root for a particular player because they are awesome.

It is just the same thing. If it bothers you then that's probably just because it hits the mark.

comparing american sports to euro soccer is apples to oranges esp going back that far. Your argument would make more sense if you were talking about today with being able to watch what ever team on multiple channels and on the internet. If you take a trip on the SB(ghey i know) most poster picked their teams the same way due to the amount of tv coverage.

Now they have way more choices. When i picked my team they were not in the best in the world and do not hold all these world records you tried to say.

you identified three possible teams as teams that you could see on television enough to consider (liverpool, arsenal, manchester united)... of those three teams the team you chose was the most successful at the time wasn't it?

Aren't you a bandwagon fan by your own admission and definition?

What exactly is your argument? Are you saying you were lying before? Was there a team winning more that you could have chosen instead of manchester?

you're ducking the question again. there are more successful teams, but none that you said you could have watched.

yes i could have,

then what did you mean by this quote?

quote:

Back then there was limited soccer coverage in the states and with no domestic league we basically only had champions league from europe on espn2 in the afternoon. This gave many people only a limited # of teams to choose from that they would watch and root for. From England Man United, Liverpool and Arsenal.

these are the teams who were in it most the time from england. You could watch teams from the other countries just as much or even more. Its not that hard to undersyand.

I see

I misunderstood your statement then. I took your quote above to mean you only considered those three (english) teams the options for you to root for. Frankly it still reads like that to me but whatever.

I view Manchester United as the Cowboys or Yankees of football because of their money, their extraordinary popularity around the world, and their dominance in the Premiere League (titles in 1992–93, 1993–94, 1995–96, 1996–97, 1998–99, 1999–00, 2000–01, 2002–03, 2006–07, 2007–08, 2008–09, 2010–11). Is this because of my limited interest in football? I'm sure. Was I wrong to assume you were interested in the Premiere League instead of the UEFA Champions League? Yes (and I'm sure that's mostly because the few friends I have that obsess about football seem to mostly obsess about the Premier League).

But having said that I find it hard to believe that Man U's dominance at the time you started rooting for them wasn't a major factor in why you picked them over at least the other English teams you might have more closely identified with. The other factor is the Manchester United fans I've encountered (while in England and West Africa) left me with the instant impression of self importance and douche-baggery I immediately felt like I already knew from Yankee fans in the United States.
