I'm not real tight lipped about fishing.
Hunting is another story. When I used to hunt public land a lot I brought a guy one morning. We hammered them. Next morning, low and behold, he was in my spot. That is probably the closest I have ever been to wanting to kill someone.

I tell people. I can't fish all the time and I know plenty of great spots.

I'll pull out the map and show my friends exactly where I went. They do the same for me though.

I had a good friend text me picture after picture of buckets of specs during the dead months this winter and every time I would ask him where he was fishing he wouldn't say. Last week I showed him a secluded sandbar where we killed the reds a couple months back and he showed me where the hidden reef was located.

I'll tell people where and how they are biting.

I don't care. If people are nice enough to help me out when I havent been out for awhile, once I finally do I return the favor to somebody else. So many miles of water to fish. I don't fish much in the summer so I don't have to worry about which rig is hot and getting there before the sun comes up along with all the guides and everyone in south LA.

I'll give them my spots or people will come up on me...I'll catch fish regardless so I'll leave the spot and find another

that's some bullshite, i'd have set up right next to him...
spots or "holes" aren't nearly as important as timing...i'll trade up general areas with people i trust sometimes

I have a good friend that has the biggest damn mouth when it comes to that shite. Had him on the coast sticking 5# specks in a place most pass up. By the time I got to Arties, I had 2-3 texts from guys in BR wanting to know what I was catching them on they were coming to fish. Now he wants to be KVD and wants be to drag him to my bass spots in marsh. I got on something the other day, again not obvious spot he puts phone down and yells across trolling motor shop exactly where I'm catching them. He's off my info list now.

I'll tell a friend where I caught fish on rod and reel, if it's a hole I found. Not gonna give away someone else's spot. I'll give friends maps with dots on it to represent places they need to hit.
I won't tell a soul about hoop-netting and trotlining spots, and I will sink a man's boat for running my net.
I won't tell you jack shite about a deer or turkey though. Hell, I tell people I killed turkeys in a different state all the time. Not gonna risk some jackass creeping in on me.
I'm pretty selfish I guess. On Saturday I took my 2 daughters (3.5 and 5.5yrs) to run nets. On the way we stopped at a store to get snacks. Cashier said "where you headed ladies?" I was so proud when one spoke up and said "Gotta go see a man about a dog." They have been listening after all.

Maybe "I'm going to poop" isn't something you should promote. They may get upset when they realize what you have them telling everyone.
