This is true. Not that this should prevent them from doing what it takes to sustain the trout populations. But those mentioned will bitch like crazy if they ever try to reduce the limits.

One of the biggest factors to consider in recent years (15-20) has been the widespread use of live bait. There's no debating it makes catching fish much easier for the average angler. In addition there's no such thing as catch and release as with artificial.

This may just be a cycle. And trout population, and specifically big trout, may return. However, in past 5 years or so both have sure seen a major decline.

charter captains

this is not easy to say without starting a whole new topic or unintentionally hijacking this thread, but in the past guides have pushed for reduced limits in order to finish up the limits, get back to the dock quicker, and reduce costs. i'm not say ALL of them, but several have in the past. and i don't have anything aginst guides, i think most of them are pretty cool guys that like to fish, but it is a business for them.

45 measly fish? Everyone is spending a ton more to go offshore and catch 2 measly fish. Its not about the numbers, just fish, have fun with the kids and a good fish fry when u get home. If it takes a few less fish to guarantee my kids the same enjoyment i had, ok. Just my opinion

30 years ago there were no limits. People would catch 3-400 a day. 15 fish per angler is plenty. If you are worried about expenses it's cheaper to go buy fish in the grocery store.

i remember those days. we called them cigar specs. they ate good, but i'd still rather catch 25 1-3 lbers.

I hate cleaning more than 50 fish. I really need to find fishing buddies that are able to clean fish

I think they should lower the creel down to 15 per person and no minimal size limit so i can catch a limit

i love cleaning fish. i stand there thinking of recipes i'm gona use on them while i do it and clean accordingly.
favorite was one time at cocodrie 3 of us limited out and as we are at the cleaning table at boudreaux's, guides etc are coming in with customers and all had single digits of fish. their jaws were dropping when they saw what we had done and couldn't stop with the questions.

I'll give my perspective on this. I fish all over south Louisiana. East, west, south,it don't matter. It's the same haul from Denham to Big Lake as it is from Denham to Delacroix. I don't mind the 15 fish limit at big lake. Get back to the camp and after cleaning 15 fish per person you're almost always glad you only had to clean that many.
I wouldn't care if they made the limit 15 per all over Louisiana. Wouldn't bother me one bit. I do however believe it wouldn't make one difference in the fish population though. I'm no fish biologist however so its just my personal opinion.

They were easy before it and up until the morning it came ashore at Grand Isle. No Shrimp boats, guides or plain rec guys fishing for an entire summer. If we catch 9mil a year, have to think at least a 1/3 is caught during the time closed. I was further west fishing open water and caught trout in 20' of water feeding on baby flounder on top. No oil to be seen move along. Caught 10 on a bare jig head playing around. That's lack of pressure.

With the high gas prices, that in itself is helping the fish population. i know it's kept me from going. i'm just picking the good days now, not gambling like i used to.

So many people last summer griped about the poor fishing, but very few took into account the horrendous conditions that were present. For the prime time action it seemed the wind blew from April-July, and then August it rained it's arse off most days. When the conditions finally settled down in September/October people were catching ridiculous amounts of fish. Up until December people were catching easy limits in western Lake Pontchartrain which is very unusual that late in the year.

If the population gets too high, you will have a system that doesn't have enough food to sustain them all and you will just catch a puny fish.

Forget smaller limits. Raise the minimum size limit from 12 to 14 inches. I'm a huge fan of catching bigger sized trout

Do you have any biological data to suggest this would definitely occur?
