Agreed. Not really a great piece.

JFK's putting a man on the moon speech in Rice Stadium at 41 is a fricking joke.

Yea and how is Disco Demolition night not on there? A Mike Veeck classic.
It was on there...like top 5. I only looked at the top 10 and saw it.
ETA: It's number 2!

Should have been a top 10 moment if ESPN was basing this list off the most memorable stadium moments. For most people outside of Houston Rice Stadium is probably remembered more for the Moon speech than as a football stadium.

It did host a Super Bowl.

I love how people are just casually smoking cigars behind him and in the stands.

I would go with Lou Gehrig's speech.

The site of several Super Bowls, the stadium had its most famous and important moments when an estimated 20,000 New Orleans residents took refuge inside the dome from Hurricane Katrina. At least three people reportedly died inside before everyone was evacuated several days later. The stadium reopened to the NFL a year later after $140 million of repair work -- although they probably should have paid closer attention to the power system.
Wait, I get it...because the power went out during the Super Bowl, right? Herp, derp.

Oakland Coliseum and Husky Stadium, 1981
The conception and the birth of the wave.
Globally - around the world/europe - in soccer stadiums - they call it the "Mexican Wave" b/c they say it originated at the 1986 WC.
I have no problem with the rest of the world crediting Mexico with this fad.

I'm going to guess Obama's acceptance speech in Denver.
