you're talking about the wrong politics. I'm talking about the comments he made about the Oscars several months ago that were completely taken out of context, that ended up costing him the award.

what comment?

It's amusing. Outrage for the sake of outrage.

Good God, the butthurt in this thread is strong.

It's more entertaining in here than the oscars (and most of the movies).

THAT was some bullshite. Chastain carried ZDT all by herself. Lawrence has a great cast around her

Why should the fact that the other actors in that film giving great performances be counted against her?

Also…DDL was blowing away Phoenix at the critics awards and those guys care NOTHING about who wins or doesn't win an Oscar.

What'd you guys think of Seth MacFarlane? I thought he did pretty well. Talented dude.

I'd give him a B-
Just wish he would have steered clear of a couple low blows.

MacFarlane was surprisingly great. I love his humor but never thought he would make as solid of a host as he did.

Chastain played a character that was very two dimensional. That was always her kryptonite. There was absolutely no depth to the character while Lawrence played a very complex role that was anything but two dimensional.

While Chastain knocked it out of the park, her character was not as difficult to play as Lawrence's was and I think that's why they gave the award to the latter rather than the former when it was all said and done.

MacFarlane is way more talented, funny, and insightful than people give him credit for... however, his shows as of late pander to a dumb audience. Every now and then you get some really smart jokes coupled with a lot of juvenile humor.

I still think Toy Story 3 was the best film of 2010.

At least it got nominated. Wall-e didn't.

DDL was considered a lock to win the Oscar before Lincoln even came out. Phoenix wasn't even assured of a nomination. Hell, look at all the other awards... DDL won those too. It wasn't politics. It was that DDL was playing Abraham Lincoln.

I guess it's the equivalent of a college football team that was ranked high in the polls to start the season always having a higher ranking in the polls than a team with a comparable resume that started the season with a lower ranking. Call it the 2004 Auburn effect.

It sucks that last year for movies was TERRIBLE but this year had a ton of deserving nom's.

I wasn't upset with any wins or loses but I hate that Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Laurence couldn't both win.

Pretty happy with the way the awards went tonight. Only wish is that ZDT should have won at least one of the major awards.

Oh and I am officially in love with Jennifer Lawrence.

Not true at all. DDL won the Oscar the moment he was announced as the lead. Joaquin Phoenix was seen as his only real threat for a time but Daniel Day-Lewis was always the frontrunner.

ignorance is bliss

here are just a few of the COUNTLESS reports and critic reviews from months ago claiming Phoenix as the front runner -

"Here's what you need to know: everyone has decided Jennifer Lawrence is going to win best actress. Joaquin Phoenix was the front-runner for best actor until a few weeks ago, when he called the Oscars "bullshite". "

Guardian UK

Best Actor Frontrunner:
Joaquin Phoenix, The Master
"He dissed the awards-season rat race in an October interview, but voters couldn't ignore his emotionally (and physically) twisted moonshine addict if they tried."
Entertainment Weekly

"Take The Master's Joaquin Phoenix, who looked like the Best Actor front-runner once upon a time … before he started bashing the Oscar race"
Vulture.com

He essentially called the Oscars "bullshite" during an interview. Whatever chance he had at the Oscar was lost when that interview was published.

What Phoenix supporters forget is that Daniel Day-Lewis was already snatching up all of he end-of-the-year critic awards at this point. He was the clear frontrunner from the very beginning of the race.
