The thing Im mad about is Jennifer Lawrence winning over Jessica Chastain.

THAT was some bullshite. Chastain carried ZDT all by herself. Lawrence has a great cast around her

The last 20 minutes of that movie ruined its chances of winning an oscar for best picture imo.
but it won

truth.

and if it weren't for the politics with the Academy then Phoenix would have won best lead actor over DDL.

Argo's the kind of movie Oscar loves to honor: movies about how important and awesome movies are. The Academy Awards are the industry awards for the Hollywood studios. Hard to be outraged by its win. But what do I know? I thought Looper was the best movie of the year.

Last year The Artist won. This year Argo. Hard to disagree with this statement.

Definitely.

1. Looper
2. The Impossible

Edit: really need to see beasts of the southern wild

Argo may not be that memorable in a few years but Slumdog Millionaire is less memorable than that.

The Dark Knight will be the film people always remember from 2008. You can laugh and call me a homer but it's 100% the truth.

Phoenix did that to himself. Say what you want about Lincoln, but Daniel Day-Lewis was hardly forgettable in the movie. Tommy Lee Jones, Sally Field, and most of the rest of the cast did outstanding jobs in that movie.

You may not like Slumdog, but saying its not memorable is pretty inaccurate. I mean, its a tribute to Bollywood and its not like we're swimming in English language Bollywood films.

And yeah, compare Argo to the last two winners. I like King's Speech but if you want to talk about a boilerplate movie that won't be remembered in 20 years. And The Artist... well, it will be remembered but not for the reasons it wants. Man, I liked that movie the first time when it was still called Singin' in the Rain. And had singing and dancing.

It's a crime that Looper didn't get nominated for ANY categories. Even though it had some well-known actors like JGL and Bruce Willis, I guess it wasn't big enough for Hollywood. With the exception of Beasts of the Southern Wild, all of the other nominated movies had either all-star casts or really established directors. Looper doesn't fit into either category. Too bad. Looper is way more rewatchable than Argo.

blah blah blah

DDL was incredible and deserving, but only a fool ... only a fool would ignore the politics going on with him winning this one.

I liked Slumdog Millionaire but it was one of those sentimental movies Hollywood always goes for. I just didn't think it was Best Picture material….it certainly didn't deserve to win 8 Academy Awards.

I disagree, but maybe me being Indian is interfering with with that perception. Just don't think it's very memorable at all.

My thoughts exactly. Good movie, not great, and certainly not memorable.

Looper was nothing more than a glorified Syfy channel movie. absolutely nothing about it was deserving of any type of Oscar, Golden Globes, or BAFTA nomination. stop the madness.

That's the Academy. Joaquin Phoenix's performance had a love-hate relationship. There were actors who loved it and there were actors who hated it. The performance was so divisive he didn't even get nominated for a SAG. He's lucky he got an Oscar nomination.

Same exact circumstance as Forrest Gump.

Phoenix didn't win because of politics? Really? An impenetrable, self-indulgent film didn't win an Oscar and you think its politics? How about that The Master was an incredibly divisive film even before we got to its politics, mainly because the art film clan loves PT Anderson and those of us who like coherent storytelling hate his guts.

PT Anderson makes films so insufferable, I actually prefer the OTHER Anderson, who I'm kind of notorious for disliking. Amy Adams is perhaps my favorite actress, and I was rooting against her this year just because I hate The Master that much.

I'd say Wall-e not getting the nomination was the worse crime. It really should have won the Oscar that year, since its one of the 5 greatest animated films ever made IMO.
