think bottom line is that more of the people in the areas affected by Gustav are a little tougher and more hardy than some of the people affected by this one. If you look closer it seems like even in this one, people in places like the River Parishes who actually lost things were too busy busting their asses helping out and doing work to complain much about power.
Oh go suck a dick!

Nowhere near this level of backlash in Gustav.
That's because Gustav was an actual hurricane that dropped more trees on my street than Isaac dropped in the entire city.
And by week 3 of no power after Gustav, I was pretty annoyed.

Could be this. But I think they are just a little softer in general.
That is the dumbest, lowest common denominator crap I've read so far about Isaac. Congrats.

Why in 2012 do the power companies still use wooden poles? Why not metal ones, which would be less likely to snap and fail during high winds?
Posted on 9/3/12 at 10:36 pm to Joehat
You don't wanna foot the bill to start sticking steel poles in the ground.

It's not just Entergy, but basically any company that is a publicly traded company (Cleco specifically). I talked with some workers from several states and a local guy that confirmed Louisianas overall infrastructure is terrible. When electric companies from other states come they literally can't believe what they see on our poles and many of them hate coming down here for that reason.
The best electric companies we have are coops that basically sell energy such as Slimco. They actually take care of their infrastructure because their money doesn't all go back to shareholders. Entergy is nickel and dimming us while they have low overhead considering what they could be doing. It's just the way corporate America works.
TIA

Your postings have been short sighted since you are talking up what entergy did in the past in regards to rewards and so forth and u are not talking of them in the present tense outside of what u want to see.
I can give a rats arse about how good they did things 5 years ago. I care about on day 4 of my outage if I fricking call and u claim to have assessed my area then give me a fricking timeline. If you properly assessed it as you are claiming you did then to should know when u will be finished your work just like every other job on the planet that uses assessments in the planning phase.
Also when did working hard translate to mean doing a great job?
Working hard does not equal doing good work, so stop acting like they are one in the same as I have seen the family member defenders of entergy workers continually do on here and on Facebook. Give me the laziest POS on earth that can get my power on instead of ten fellas working their asses off but are not getting anywhere.

this thread is full of FAIL.
Entergy enjoys a manopoly here and has for quite some time. Their response to this storm in Orleans and Jefferson Parish is unacceptable. They knew everyone would be without power before the storm even affected Florida. Entergy was predicting 5 days on the radio. Instead of bolstering their efforts they were conditioning us.
Anyone could see that their response effort was poorly organized at best. Furthermore, i would be willing to bet that every named storm from here on out will have a similar response. We are being conditioned to accept piss poor performance by Entergy and they know full well their customers don't have a choice because they are the only game in town.

My power came back on last night. Its funny though because two of my neighbors must not know and are still running generators. It is hard to tell power is back when the main is off.

Yup. Likely does PR consulting for them too.
the Entergy lovefest there is blatant. Who cares about awards they win when paying customers aren't receiving the services they depend upon.
Just shut up and get it done.

I passed a business today on Metairie Road that still has a damn power pole(with tranformer) laying across the roof. Wires are hanging down all around on the sidewalk.
Sad thing is the business is an AC and electrical contractor.

I give up. I'm not wasting anymore of my time with this trying to explain something to people that don't care to hear the answer if its not what they want to hear.
You say winning awards and the reputation they have doesn't matter? Right, because we never use past accomplishments to judge how we approach current situations. I'm sure you've never looked at a companies history before hiring them to do a job. All that matters is that your lights weren't back on Wednesday night, and obviously they aren't doing their job.
You can log onto Entergy's storm site and see the actual grid and where problems are. You can get text messages from Entergy with updates. You can log onto their Facebook page to get updates. None of this existed for Gustav and any of the storms prior. The fact is, you have access to more outage information than any group of customers before, but its not good enough because they can't tell you exactly the minute your power will be restored. Or the street next to you has power, but you don't, so they must be unorganized. Or you cant see any poles down, so they must not be doing anything. Giving more information to the general public that does not want to understand or accept the information they are being given is not always a good thing.
People belittled this storm before it came. People on here belittled others choosing to prepare for it. It doesn't really surprise me that people are now mad because their power has not come back on today and are looking to find someone to blame because "it was only a Category 1".
I really hope your power comes back on soon. Good luck to you, sir.

I understand the frustrations of being without power for an extended period of time...It SUCKS.
But TBH, 7 days is quick compared to people out in rural areas. During Gustav, my parents went without power for 22 days in the Felicianas!! During Andrew, we went without for 15 days.
At least you don't have DEMCO!

The entire CBD just lost power at 3:30 and the buildings were all emptied out into a massive gridlock on Poydras and Canal.
