the film has a 96% on rottentomatoes currently (25 fresh, 1 rotten) with an average rating of 9/10

here are some review excerpts

TIME MAGAZINE

quote:

For once a melodrama with pulp origins convinces viewers that it can be the modern equivalent to Greek myths or a Jonathan Swift satire. TDKR is that big, that bitter -- a film of grand ambitions and epic achievement.

DAILY TELEGRAPH

quote:

After a breathless, bravura final act, a nuclear payload of catharsis brings The Dark Knight Rises, and Nolan's trilogy, to a ferociously satisfying close.

TOTAL FILM

quote:

A smart, stirring spectacle that faces down impossible expectations to pull off a hugely satisfying end to business.

MOVIE CITY NEWS

quote:

The Dark Knight Rises is the movie a filmmaker makes after they have earned the freedom to break the mold and to reach for something bigger than the franchise.

HOLLYWOOD REPORTER

quote:

Big-time Hollywood filmmaking at its most massively accomplished, this last installment of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy makes everything in the rival Marvel universe look thoroughly silly and childish.

ROLLING STONE

quote:

Potent and provocative, The Dark Knight Rises is the King Daddy of summer movie epics.

DIGITAL SPY

quote:

The Dark Knight Rises is intelligent, heart-pounding spectacle cinema that grips like a vice from minute one and won't let go.

EMPIRE MAGAZINE

quote:

A fitting epitaph for the hero Gotham deserves.

And for those who are interested in what the one negative critic said...

quote:

At times, the action is so massive and thunderously clunky that I might as well have been watching one of the Transformers movies.

The review I read on IGN said if you're a fan of Batman Begins, you'll love this movie, because it harkens back to BB a lot, especially with info you need to know.

I can buy that it's overrated, don't know about complete suckage. i thought it was absolutely great after my first viewing...however subsequent viewings have left me thinking otherwise.

Multiple viewings give you the chance to poke holes in some things. It's still the best comic movie IMO.

The one negative critic clearly spent the majority of middle and high school being shoved into lockers. He was stooping to anything to find reasons to knock the movie to feed his inferiority complex

It's still a great movie, even after several viewings. People heralded it as one of the greatest movies ever made, and that was too high of praise, but it's definitely up there as far as best comic book movies ever made is concerned.

The negative reviews are making the RT posters act like rantards.

The Dark Knight fanboys are worse than LotR. Lord of the Rings fanboys tend to be older and more matured and reserved. Tons of Dark Knight fanboys are immature 13 year olds, that will flame anything.
