How has Miles improved as a coach?

Areas where I think he has improved
- Recruiting - his first couple of classes weren't great but his last few, especially the 2009 class was phenomenal
- Mental mistakes/penalties - we were terrible in this area but seem more focused and mature recently.
What else ?

probably the biggest area from the first couple of years is focus on special teams...many fans don't realize how much of a difference this has made over the past couple of seasons.

by hiring extremely good position coaches and recruiters

im sure you're one of the morons that thinks the only reason LSU has won so many games under Miles is because we have super awesome players

Talented players and his assistants make the program what it is. 2010 Les was the same as 2005 Les. 2011 Les looked better because we beat everyone by 30 points. Except one..

He uses less fragments during interviews now.

I think Les takes hiring assistants more seriously. Compare the Malleveto debacle with Chavis. IOW, I don't think Les is likely to hire another dud asst.
I think he really understands what it takes to stay atop the SEC as compared to his first 3-4 yrs.
Areas for Improvement: it was nothing less than sheer football stupidity to mothball the O we used for 8 games last year. Hope he learned something from that and will never, ever repeat this mistake again.

IMO
1. Recruiting better
2. Clock management (hopefully 09 Ole Miss and 10 UT will be it)
3. Assistant hires. Chavis, Stud, Krag, etc.
4. The 2011 team was as focused a LSU club I can remember, hopefully this continues.

No doubt recruiting has stepped up, but I've been wondering how much impact Katrina had on his first couple of classes. His first full class was 2006, right after that fall.
He has certainly done much better job of hiring assistants, that has helped with the recruiting as well.

Miles did a phenomenal job handling all of the distractions last year. Many on here, myself included, expected several losses after JJ was arrested as well as Krags being diagnosed. Not that JJ was Joe Montana, but the combined loss of your OC and QB right before the season is a huge loss. Miles took it in stride and beat a top 5 team on the road.
He was in a no win situation with JJ and Lee. He could've handled it better on 1/9. He didn't. Nothing anyone can do about it now. I thought it was great he could mock himself with the EA commercial. He knows he fricked up and has moved on obviously. I think we will see an improved Miles this year. I think the arse whipping he received has made him more focused.

I referenced his inexplicable coaching decisions, or lack thereof, in the NC game. I saw no improvement in coaching skills, especially game adjustments. The game plan, whatever it was, wasn't working...so he stayed with the game plan, which wasn't working.
Poor poor coaching. Sadly, you'll probably see more of it this year. So, no, he hasn't improved as a coach in my opinion.

8 - 10 more years of pure hell then I guess.

Let me get this straight. You're saying that:
The coach who got the Tigers to the best record in school history, ever, the man who was named the AP Coach of the Year last year, the 2011 Home Depot National Coach of the year, the 2011 Walter Camp National Coach of the Year, the 2011 Liberty Mutual National Coach of the Year, has 2 SEC titles, 1 National Championship to his name, another National Championship appearance, 75 victories in 7 years in the SEC, who encourages his players to stay in school and graduate so much that the graduation rate is second only to Vanderbilt hasn't improved.
Hmmm.....
