Yes. They have a new set up and you can sit out over the lake above their roof deck. Well worth the detour, IMO.

I'm not much on fish, so Middendorfs was always just meh to me. as I have gotten older I kinda have branched out a little more, but haven't been in a while.
I will say, unless it has changed drastically, Crawfords two on Staring had some of the best catfish I ever tried.

(I don't like fishy tasting fish, or that grey slimy belly meat...)

So worth it. Their seafood platter(which has the fish on it)is killer. Their new set up is nice as well

Go check out "Forf's" but fried catfish is the kind of thing any place can make

I think everyone should experience Middendorf's. It's a unique place.

I'm a fan. My dad is the ultimate fan. He would plan our vacations as a kid around a trip by there. We once went to the Grand Canyon from Monroe via Middendorf's.

Not really, but he loves the hell out some Middendorfs.

Just be prepared to wait. My then wife and I were coming back to BR after her company Christmas party a couple of weeks before Christmas one year and we decided to make a detour up 55 to hit up Middendorf's. There was a line a good 150 feet long stretching out the front door of people waiting to get a seat.

It was freaking 45 degrees and raining, and there were idiots standing outside waiting in that.

I don't know exactly the whole context, but that seemed a bit extreme, so we just kept going and hit up a place on a little pond in Ponchatoula not far off I-55.

It's a lot bigger now. They can run some people through it.

Be sure to get the THIN fried catfish. That's what they are known for.

Good to know. That was the last time we tried and it would've been about 5 or 6 years ago. It just never made sense to even attempt to drive an hour to wait forever after we saw that display.

Completely agreed on the thin fish, too. That's the one reason I wanted to go in the first place.

I personally don't care for the thin type they have. I know they offer a thicker filet fried but to me its just OK. I prefer Hymel's in Convent or Chef KD's in Dutchtown over Middendorf's. To each his own.

I'm an Hymels fan and they do a good filet as well. They have great jumbo fried shrimp too but you have to order it as jumbo.

And when crabs come in they are the best place for boiled which is normally when my visits pick up.

Middendorfs is the only restaurant i will go to and order catfish on purpose. I fish all the time and am very picky when it comes to fried fish... And I'm not a catfish fan at all. But middendorfs thin catfish is damn good

middenforf's catfish everytime i have gone just seems to be feeding you crispy batter. Cant even really taste fish. Its different so I dont mind it but its nto my favorite catfish.

I like Mathernes catfish. Its a grocer so not exactly a place to sit down and eat but my favorite in BR.

You could just say, "bring me out a bunch of fried batter," and you'd get the same amount of fish.

Don't get me wrong, I liked Middendorf's when I went. The food was pretty good, and their new patio overlooking the water was very cool on a pretty day. But seriously, I just don't get the love for their thin fried catfish....I mean, there's nothing in it....and their batter isn't really seasoned. It is fried well though.

bc thick catfish is gross. Has a slimy texture and fishy taste bc people don't know how to cook it (or take the time to prepare it correctly).. I wouldn't expect the average person to understand this though.

Middendorf's offers thick cut catfish filets too. Do they fall under the "don't know how to cook it" crowd?

And you still didn't tell me what's so good about eating a bunch of unseasoned batter.

Not a fan of their thick catfish. Like I said earlier, it's the only place I will order catfish and it will be thin cut. And it's not a place I go to often considering my freezer is loaded with better frying fish than catfish and I eat fresh fish weekly
