Several New Orleans Saints defenders said Tuesday they have not been given any formal word from defensive coordinator Gregg Williams or the franchise about Williams reported departure for the St. Louis Rams. The players conceded they were perplexed by the situation.

Linebacker Jonathan Casillas and defensive end Cameron Jordan both said they learned Williams was likely headed to St. Louis from television reports. Casillas said some - though he did not include himself - may have hard feelings both from Williams leaving New Orleans and from the manner in which they discovered the development.

Defensive end Will Smith, one of the unit's two captains, said Williams did not discuss his future plans with the players during a meeting Monday.

Saints Coach Sean Payton is slated to conduct a season-ending press conference around 1 p.m. this afternoon.

Some are still defending him.

Yeah. I get that argument. "That's just the way he is." Regardless if it was the smart thing to do, at least he stuck to his guns

3G doesn't deserve half the shite some posters are giving him. Just think Gary Gibbs.

I'd hate to see what they do poorly then.

So because he isn't Gibbs, that makes him deserving of all the hype he gets? Hell no.

I don't care what scheme you have, if you recognize that the players you have aren't even close to fitting the scheme you run, you change the fricking scheme.

Blitzing doesn't work with our players? Hell, let's keep doing it .

"Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

In fairness we were amazing in 2008 in not getting to the quarterback.

so it sounds like Williams and Payton knew he was headed out weeks ago but tried their best not to let it become a distraction. Wow, I know it is hard but those conversations should wait until after the season is over.

reason: because never blitzing is just as bad as always blitzing. when an offense is completely one dimensional, opposing defenses will key in on that one area and try to take it away.

defenses are the same. if all you do is man blitz, then opposing offenses will take advantage of that. an effective D will mix coverages and blitzes to keep the offense unsure of what to expect.

Conclusion: GG=GW seperate sides to the same coin
