How much do you tip?

Breakfast to me is much more percentage wise than dinner. I'm a consistant 20% at dinner normally rounding up because math is easier when having good wine. If the waiter makes the mistake of handing the check to my wife he normally knocks a few bucks off.
Talk about it.

I'm usually fairly sloshed at the end of my meal so I just double the tax. Puts me right around 20%

18-20% after tax is my norm.

I usually leave 18-20% - double the tax, plus or minus, depending on service. I never tip on post tax bill.

20% range unless the service really warrants an adjustment either way.

10% across the board because I did it for 7 years so I know how overpaid thee suckers are.

15-20 depending on how it rounds off to dollars. I use cash. If I can't get it in that range I go over 20 till it's rounded.

I just tipped 15 cents at Subway.

15% is my minimum, then I add on based on the level of service.
If it is a cheap meal, I feel like 15%-20% is unfair, so I'll just throw a few bucks down.

I start at 20% post tax and go from there, depending on service, but I rarely go down and it has to be a wait person error and not a kitchen error. I don't blame the wait staff on kitchen error.

i usually do 20%, but will go up or down depending on the level of service. I'm not timid about rewarding OR punishing, based on service.
agreed. some sit-down, table service places that I frequent have great lunch specials under 10 bucks. I feel bad leaving just 2$, so i usually thrown in a bit extra.

This is exactly what I do.

I've been a server, so it's 20%+...in cash.
If the service really really really sucks, I'll leave 15% but won't return.

is it just me, or is it rude to ask other people how they spend their own money
Posted on 4/29/11 at 12:13 pm to Rouge
20-30% depending on the service.
Nothing if the service sucked.

I consider asking someone how much they make as being rude, but this is a fair question.
...and to touch on what someone said, if I'm there for a cheap lunch or traveling on business alone, I'll leave more.

You have the option here of not answering the question which was directed to no particular person. This is a Food and Drink board on which restaurants are discussed as well as cooking at home, etc... The question is relevant in my opinion.

If the waitress has big boobs I'm going 50%.
