The coaches actually like Landry on the outside.

my guess is boone, wright and landry will fight for the outside slot opposite RR, with Shep in the slot. Landry might back up Randle.

Landry is the receiver we want to turn Shepard into. We should put Landry in that spot and let Shepard focus more on a running role where he had his success this season.

This. Shep and Landry are 2 very different types of players.

I think Shep moves to slot, Landry goes to #2.

If I had to guess, the 3-deep would look like this:

#1
Randle
Boone
Chris Tolliver

#2
Wright
Landry
Williams

Slot
Shep
Beckham
Tolliver?

That looks about how I would think it would be except with Fobbs or Paul Turner as the 3rd guy in the slot. I also see Landry eventually working his way into the starting lineup.

Does a freshmen take a 2 year starters spot? This is dumb.

IMO, Landry would fit the slot ideally, but without a receiver to step into the taller, speedy outside role, he may play there out of necessity.

Landry is a legit outside threat at WR - dude has all the tools , slot is usually a quick slasher that is not as refined (don't get me wrong he could play it) but landry is a X or Z WR

Thats not true. Wes Welker and Lance Moore are the ideal slots. From what I understand Landry is a lot like Welker/Moore. Landry has ideal size (little bigger than Welker/Moore height wise), not the fastest but runs clean/great routes, has great hands, and can take a hit well.

Here is Rivals write up on him. (also says his Agility is "as good as it gets")

On the Hoof: He is very slight in stature, looking more like a middle infielder and leadoff hitter than one of the best receivers in the country. He is very lean with virtually no body fat.
Needs Improvement: He could improve his speed just a tad, while adding some size and strength. There are some concerns with him creating separation against big, athletic corners. Another area that he will need to improve is his run blocking.
Most Impressive: Landry runs excellent routes and his change of direction is incredible making him very dangerous in space. He has the type of hands that reach out and snatch the ball out of the air at the last second, leaving unsuspecting defensive backs waving at thin air.
Conclusion: His ultra-competitive nature bodes well for him seeing early playing time. Though not a burner, his ability to catch, tuck and run makes him an ideal candidate as a punt returner.

I'm familiar with the slot position, and I've watched Landry's film.

IDEALLY, LSU would like to have a compliment to RR on the other side comparable to the kind of receivers that required PP's full attention this year.

I don't know about you, but I want my slot receiver to be refined, in an ideal situation. Shepard has a long way to go. So much so, that I simply laugh at the Harvin role talk that was so prevalent prior to this season.

I look for Shepard to get a chance in the return game, along with a package where he lines up alongside the QB from the shotgun. Someone else will fill the slot by season's end.

I'm hoping it's Landry, and one of the other guys steps up on the outside. I like Landry's hands, and he will present matchup problems more from the slot. He can be a go to guy.

NO. Shep should have a break out year and rake havoc on every defense we play against. The fact of the matter is he was able to get his hands on the ball and run away from people in highschool and he should be able to it at LSU with the right offense.

100% agree.

Shep has the tools and talent. Our coaching staff need to figure how to get him going. Much as Chief did with Tyrann, so someone on the other side of the ball needs to do with Shep.

Until now I think we've harldy scratched the surface with how good he can be.
