How pissed off would La Tech be?

quote:

The Hawaii Star-Advertiser is reporting that the Western Athletic conference could look to Texas as it seeks to replenish its ranks, identifying Lamar as a potential candidate.

But believe it or not, I’m hearing that the Western wants to make yet another run at North Texas, which has already spurned the league multiple times, most recently just a few months ago.

Along with Louisiana-Lafayette
, who has been identified by sources in two separate athletic departments, those two would appear to be the top preferences to fill the void about to be left by Boise State, Nevada, Fresno State and Hawaii.

BTW, no way do we accept the invite.

Their travel budget would skyrocket with no added value in participating in the WAC.

They could really use Derek Dooley as their AD right now....

We've both already turned the WAC down. North Texas has turned them down a few times.

ULL doesn't make sense in the WAC geographically or competitively

They would break out into celebration if we accepted them. They're getting turned down by FCS schools. No way do we say yes though.

This. I miss him more as the AD than as the HC at Tech. As far as UL-L, 2 years ago I'm sure they would have jumped to the WAC. Better league, more exposure. Now it doesn't make much sense for them to leave. The new WAC probably isn't any better than the belt. Might even be worse.

It's worse, IMHO, because the Sun Belt is at least stable in its membership as well as having reasonable travel distances for in-conference games/meets.

The WAC is about a half-step from having its recognition as a FBS conference pulled and the travel distances are insane for most of the teams looking to join, which have tended to be in Texas and Louisiana.

Traveling from ULL to San Jose State, New Mexico State, or Idaho would be long and probably expensive, especially for non-revenue sports.

Disagree. TCU at least joined an AQ BCS conference.

The WAC is looking for anyone to accept an offer to join their sinking ship. The schools that brought recognition to the conference are all gone. UTSA and Texas State are upstarts and it will take time for them to be competitive. Adding North Texas and UL-L who are both current FBS programs would give the WAC a bit of credibility. That isn't going to happen though.

The good news for LA Tech is they should be at the top of the new WAC for a while and should get some bowl exposure.

Adding North Texas and UL-L would not add any football credibility at all. It would just make it a bigger conference of not-so-great footbal teams. Which, is the Sunbelt, so definitely a lateral move for everyone, except that the WAC just needs to survive I suppose.

I think the WAC will eventually just dissolve and all of the current WAC schools will find other conferences.

I don't think Tech has any interest in joining ULM in a conference, moreso than ULL.

Why would La. Tech be pissed if ULLLLL joined the WAC?

It would be an inexpensive home and home series and an almost conference automatic win for Tech every year? Sounds to me like Tech would love that.

La Tech fans have some fairy tale in their head in which they are a prestigious program. They would hate to be in the same conference as us or ULM because they think they're better. It's why their fans are absolutely anti-Sun Belt when it makes way more sense than the WAC.

Well, the Sunbelt is on the way up and the WAC is on the way down. Combine that with the hires that ULL made in football and basketball (still waiting on better results from that one), and ULL has the potential to be the lone #2 team in the state.

Hudspeth seems to have gotten some pretty connected assistant coaches. How is their recruiting going right now beyond the QB and couple of JUCOs they picked up the other day?
