Can't think of any drawbacks to Patterson if Miles is gone.
This is correct. He would be my top choice

This should be Alleva's one and only call.
This is only halfway correct. Alleva should call him but then he will have to continue calling because patterson aint leaving. His name has come up many many times but hes still at TCU. Why? we can only guess but he sure aint leaving now with the money TCU is putting in.....

Minnesota and ND are teams that I remember that tried to get him and failed.

Minn doesn't really count in our comparison, but I vaguely remember ND, but wasnt sure if it was him or Kelley after the pipedreams such as Gruden etc

His name came up with UF and A&M.....maybe Im wrong but I believe UF HAD to have given him a call and he said not interested before they moved to muschamp.

quote:yea, I don't remember that at all re: UF. TCU ain't far behind a&m though. LSU would presumably be the first top 10 program to make a serious run at him as far as I know

I guess Im wrong or maybe it was just message board crap that they were looking at him similar to Gruden to LSU
If we can land him then I would not worry about the program at all

Ok, that's admirable, but your line of thinking obviously isn't the same as Patterson's. Sometimes people are happy with the status quo. Maybe Patterson realizes he's got a really good thing going at TCU right now. He just won the freaking Rose Bowl at TCfreakingU. Maybe he doesn't want to take on the challenge of and SEC schedule where he can go 10-2 and the fans will want to run him out of town. I wouldn't call that line of thinking "borderline insane" at all.

Any coach that would rather play a pee wee football schedule like in the big east over the sec schedule doesn't have the competitive gene. Tcu won't pay Patterson as much as lsu. Tcu can't offer as much. Lsu could win a mnc next year. Patterson would strongly consider the job if he was offered it.

I think now that miles might leave the negatigers and positigers have switched roles. The former positigers don't want lsu to hire a better coach because they will be proven wrong about miles. The negatigers want to get the best coach. So I think it's safe to say the former positigers were just miles fans disguised as positive lsu fans.

quote:not many in the coaching profession from what I've seen. He won the Rose Bowl but was left out of the NC w/ an undefeated team. He could still be left out in the Big East.

Gary Patterson is not leaving TCU...for any other job. He has turned down every school that contacted him the past three years. He will not be LSU's coach, period.
You may be 100% correct. However, should Les leave Alleva should give Gary Patterson one more offer to add to his rejection-collection - and one he will always regret.

If he didn't turn down Florida, Texas, or Alabama (yes i know two of those weren't looking), then you can't say we'd never get him to leave. That is the league we are in. ND or Minnesota aren't anywhere close.

See, that's wrong. LSU would win a bidding war if there were no ceiling, however LSU would be willing to pay so much and TCU could match that easily.
FWIW TCU has the 12th highest CFB budget in the nation, I believe.

I keep telling you guys that Patterson would give LSU a big consideration. Have know him for 22 years and he really loves LSU. He DC, Dick Bumpus, played at Arky and coached at Vandy with Parcells and loves the SEC.
I would not rule him out.

Look what happened to Patterson's mentor at TCU. Franchione left for a big-time SEC program, and now he just accepted the head job at powerhouse Texas State.
Patterson is content at TCU.

Actually - the notion that TCU can pay someone whatever they want to or whatever they want is true. Among endowments in the USA, TCU is big time. They honestly have billions. State government mad money.

I remember hearing on the radio (I believe Richard Justice) state that Patterson did not want to leave TCU until he brought them a national title. He wanted to do this while members of the 1938 national title team were still alive. Take it for what it is worth but it seems the man is invested in TCU.
Side note I would love for him to be the coach at LSU, I just do not think it would happen especially with them making the move to the big east in 2012.
