Since you're an admitted Tar Heel fan I have just one thing to say to you...

"TIGER BAIT, TIGER BAIT, TIGER, BAIT, TIGER BAIT, TIGER BAIT, TIGER BAIT, TIGER BAIT, TIGER BAIT!"

Over the years some people have reasoned that Auburn fans (and now other less intelligent fanbases including Alabama, UGA, Florida, etc.) call us corndogs because of all the fried food we cook at tailgates. This is a spin put on the obvious lack of imagination this insult was born from. Anybody who has been to LSU during a tailgate realizes quite quickly that most food is grilled or prepared in other ways more frequently than fried.

This is all really funny because most LSU fans now embrace the corndog name because that insult(?) shows, more than anything, how lame Aurburn fans really are.

right, it's just lame. I try to pretend that i care but i don't.

Besides, i'm pretty sure that corndog assumption is much higher in redneck central Alabama than Louisiana. Louisiana has it's own food culture. Bama has Sonic.

You're very correct about this is the same defense that gave up those yards to McNeese St. but you also have to remember that we were top 15 in all defensive categories last year and I believe 6th overall (could be wrong here).

I think we smell more like jambalaya than anything.

Which is a good question. what is the most coooked meal at Tiger Stadium on game day. Jambalaya or Gumbo

Except for the fact that that's the first I remember seeing it, 2003 over on the Dawg Run.

Maybe Auburn fans started it up before then, but I only remember seeing them come up with it after I saw it on the UGA board.

I've heard that it really strikes a nerve when people talk about "the corndog smell" to LSU fans...is that true?

I'd argue that the vast majority of people actually out there on gameday have no idea about the corndog thing. Rightfully so, because it doesn't make any sense. The only reason I'm even aware of it is because of TD. At the tailgates I go to if a rival fan tries the corn dog thing everyone around me is completely baffled.

This is mainly confied to Tiger Droppings, and most of the fanbase would look at you like you were crazy if you called them a corndog.

Some may take it as an insult because they would have no idea what you meant by it.

So yeah some would probably be pretty upset at it.

I can't believe this shite comes up every year. I used to keep the explanation saved on my computer so I could dispel the bullshite. All I can find now is this explanation from 2008 by Tigersruletheearth (my thanks to him):
To sum it up:
PART ONE:
Nebraska fans were called corndogs by Big 12 foes because they are the cornhuskers. Makes sense, I guess.

PART TWO:
Auburn fan proclaims LSU fans smell like corndogs, It's an obvious case of plagiarism. If an opponent has the same mascot as you (see: Auburn Tigers and LSU Tigers) you can't really make fun of tigers. What's an unimaginative Auburn fan to do? Steal some random insult from other passionate college football fanbase.

I've been a LSU fan for around 15 years now and I don't get the insult frankly. I rarely if ever saw a coonass or cajun eating a corndog - and these frickers will eat anything
