it's true
LSU induced porter to sign his LOI under fraudulent circumstances (they never brought up the greyshirt issue, and therefore it was not an option) and then they tried to change their agreement right before LSU was expected to perform (a day before practice started)
in the real world, that's a lawsuit

You sure are taking this hard

Ferguson, Wing, and Gore all qualified in the last week or so. If any one of those does not occur, he doesn't have to go to Porter for the grayshirt. It's very possible that they did not expect this until very recently.

Sign him up. I wouldn't loan him any money if I were you.

So Les found out Monday that everyone qualified? Other schools might do this, but they don't tell a kid that's been working with the team all summer THE DAY BEFORE PRACTICE STARTS that he doesn't have a spot. Les supporters have always stood by him for being a standup guy. Well there goes the ONE thing he had going for him because this is a straight up douche move.
As an alumnus this really pisses me off regardless if other programs do this. I will continue to support Les miles for now, but this was just an embarrassing move IMO.

Your hatred of Miles has you not thinking reasonably on the subject.

are you arguing he wasn't fraudulently induced into signing his LOI or that miles attempted to change the terms of their contract for 2009-2010?

I don't know what it is that's causing your trouble, denial?

Yup, and since I'd get paid by hour, I wish you the best of luck.

Are you saying the LOI prevents a party from backing out of the scholarship agreement prior to the school year?

I get that your being somewhat silly bout a lawsuit, but the problem is these LOI's which are binding only on the students and not the schools.
In seriousness, something should be done to fix the LOI IMO

i don't get it. it is simple
1. before NSD, miles never brought up a greyshirt possibility. if LSU had intended porter as a greyshirt possibility, then they are bound to make this 100% clear to porter before he agrees. otherwise LSU is fraudulently inducing him to make this agreement.
2. porter signed with LSU on NSD, binding him to LSU for 1 year
3. a month before practice, LSU pulls his scholarship offer (while he is bound to LSU) for 2009-2010
it is CLEARLY a breach of contract by LSU

if a player signs a LOI and tries to back out, he loses 2 years of eligibility (on a 1-year contract) in some cases

is porter still on scholarship for 2009-2010?
does he gain all the benefits of an athletic scholarship? if not, then his scholarship was pulled

Denial of what? It was a bad situation. Do you think it was done intentionally?
Like I said, they staff is pushing the envelope, and they thought that doing so was worth calculated risk. It's exactly what I'd want my coach to do.
Saban oversigned 2 years ago to a great extent and cut many people on the existing team. Kenny Bell reportedly didn't know if he had a scholarship until well after signing day the year he signed.
You don't care about Porter. You simply are excited to have something to bitch about Miles about.

He told them before August 2nd.

So, now you are mixing the legal ramifications with NCAA rules?
Are you making a legal argument or simply a logical one?

Yes.

Whether Miles spelled it out or not, the possibility of a greyshirt is/was always there. I'm sure there's a lot of fine print that neither you nor me know about when it comes to a Letter of Intent. When you sign on the dotted line, you very likely might be agreeing that you realize the possibility of the team releasing you at any moment. Just speculation, but I would have to think terms like this are in black and white on the document. Therefore, you'd have no case for a lawsuit.
