Exactly.. There is no level 4. If Saito goes to limbo when he dies, then Fischer has to be in limbo.
There wasn't a 4th dream level constructed so how do Cobb, Ariadne, and Fischer (who is dead, not sleeping or in a coma) logically end up in "level 4"?

Fischer dies, so it's logical, given what we're told about dying under the effects of the sedative, that he would go to limbo.
We then see Cobb and Ariadne selectively enter limbo themselves. This doesn't contradict any of the rules that the films presents (ie, the film never says the "only" way to access limbo is by dying under the effects of a sedative). But more significantly, this is the exact same modality employed by Cobb and Mal when they wound up in limbo - they simply went "deep" enough.
The film remains numerically ambiguous on just how "deep" you have to go before you hit limbo, but it does present the audience with two discrete occurrences of this type of entry into limbo.

ok...so i just watched the movie for the 2nd time with my buddy(it was his 1st viewing)...the kid i watched it with is prob the smartest person ive ever met...
but anyway...i couldnt wait to see what he took from this film, and how he expressed it to me..b/c ive gotten a diff take on what went down from every person ive asked an opinion of...
when we first got out of the movie, he went on about it being leo's dream(limbo)and his team trying to ease his coinsidence , or save him from limbo, etc.-(kinda the same stuff i thought)...then he kept talking about saito, and how he didnt fit with the others, etc...then he said what if leo and saito are one in the same? and a million things came from that..then he said what if the entire film is saito's dreams, and saito's limbo and not leo's..what if instead of leo being the subject of the inception from his former team(which is what i thought happened)..what if it actually was saito...then he listed a bunch of stuff..
then he went on to say "the obvious thing about this movie is that nolan is performing an inception on us the movie watcher"..
he went on to say it's fun to theorize about what we think happened, but infact the entire movie was a paradox...he said it's obv that nolan is obsessed with the idea of the paradox(there is no true ending or explanation), and mc escher's thoughts and works that involve the idea of a paradox...escher used to wonder if it's possible if the floor could actually be the ceiling-which happened in ellen page's dream part.....
he also has paintings of the exact staircases(ascending and descending) they illustrate when "training" areadne...also, the chase scene in the hotel when arthur is runnning from the bad guy, then magically appears behind him, pushes him over the ledge, and says "paradox"..also, the part when arthur and juno are walking the stairs, the lady drops the papers, they go up the next level, and she's there again...thats another classic example of a paradox..
then at the end of the movie, when ellen and leo are walking the long hallway in his house, the entire wall is lined with mc escher sketches...
somehow i didnt catch anything about escher when i watched it, but my buddy caught the similarities,compared them to the paradox that chris nolan created, provided proof of escher's works throughout the film...
all pretty awsesome, really..im not sure if anyone touched on this, but i wanted to throw it out there if it hasnt already been thrown..

i apologize for the big clusterf*c* of words i just typed above this...i just wanted to get out some of what i just heard and thought about as quickly as possible...
i realize there are millions of spelling and grammatical errors going on up there, but hopefully i at least got a few random thoughts across

my buddy keeps going back to saito...he is obsessed, lol...he also is working on an idea that the very beginning(saito's place) the very end(saito's place/someone's limbo) and the train scene, and maybe the airplane(still not totally sold on that one) are the only moments of actual reality in the movie.. ??
-what about this train scene? cobb, arthur, the orig. designer, and saito are dreaming...it's the one that saito calls the "test", that they failed..they all wake up before saito, and leave the train car(leo says he's getting off in kioto), then saito awakes alone in the train car, except for the little asian boy...why is the little boy's presence or meaning not explained?
did saito just trick the "dream team"(lol) into thinking that they put him under-to steal from him,?- but he actually fooled them into thinking they were bumping back into reality, and they actually bumped to a different dream level?
someone make sense of this train scene..

what about the little asian guy on the train?...when saito wakes up, he rubs his wrist, smiles a little, and looks at the little asian kid..there is no explanation of who he is or why he is there...besides the obvious running of the dream machine..

my brain has been broken for a long time lol...
but, my buddy's? i thought it was pretty impressive that he pulled all that paradox and mc escher parallel stuff out on just his first viewing of the movie...the never ending staircases, the escher scetches lining the walls in leo's hallway..the subtile mentions of paradox and escher..
thats one of the only things i know for sure about this film...it is meant to be sort of a paradox..everyone is supposed to have their own idea of what actually happened, what was real/dream, etc..

So besides the obvious and the essential task, why is he there and you think the presence is indicative of a some deeper meaning because it seems so out of place?

The paradox stuff wasn't subtle at all. It was pretty blatant.
