main impression was a scifi Dances with Wolves remake done with Jamaicans. I wonder if Costner's pissed he didn't

I watched it a couple of weeks ago and didn't make it through the whole thing. Shut it off around the time he had hair sex with his mentor chick. Terrible, terrible movie IMHO

as the special effects get dated it's going to be viewed as a kids movie and that's all IMO

I had to watch it again to fully appreciate it.

The first time you're expecting something along the lines of a masterpiece.

Once you watch it after knowing what's in store, it's actually pretty good.

And I though the EXACT same thing about Dances with Wolves.

Huge movie buff...

Fell asleep 30 minutes into it first time. Finally saw whole thing second go round and it was mediocre.

I won't say it sucked arse, but it was no where near being worthy for all the hype. I did not really enjoy the movie at all... Seemed very dumbed down and insisted upon itself.

Not as good without the 3D
I saw it once, after I downloaded and thought it was boring. So a friend paid for me to see it in 3D then I understood what the fuss was about. You were not paying for the movie but the special effects.

Well Dances With Wolves was basically just a remake of A Man Called Horse anyway so he shouldn't be too pissed off.

I haven't seen Avatar but everyone I know IRL swears it's awesome.

Where is all this hype that people keep talking about? I don't know anyone that said this was a masterpiece. It is what it is, a really pretty looking popcorn movie. I thought it was entertaining. I rolled my eyes a few times, and yeah, the story's ripped off...but so is 90% of what we watch in movies nowadays. I don't get the hate for it other than it's hugely popular, and it's cool to hate on stuff like that.

That actually says a lot with respect to its quality.

IF someone says some variation of this:

quote:

not the same as seeing it in the theaters w/ 3D

THEN the chances are quite high the movie in question is beyond terrible. Just something I've picked up on.

You must have short memory. There were plenty on here that said it was a masterpiece and that the movie would revolutionize the entire film industry.

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

It sucked because there was no real depth to any character. Everyone was cookie cutter evil or good.

It sucked because in earlier scenes the arrows could not break the glass windows of the ships yet at the end they could.

It sucked because without any character development some soldiers switched sides and gave up their lives FOR NO REASON to save the aliens.

It sucked because it was one of the most predictable movies I have ever seen. Did anyone not know he was going to end up on that big arse bird thing to unite everyone?

Mainly it sucked because it was a ham-fisted environmental story with the depth of a wading pool.

There were numerous other problems that people on here fought about after it was released but thankfully they are fading from memory.

This isn't actually Dances With Wolves. It isn't even remotely as good.

Now when I say it sucked, I mean the story. I thoroughly enjoyed the 3-D on the big screen, but I will never watch it again because without the 3-D it is mediocre at best.

PS. Sigourney Weaver was dreadful and her animation didn't seem as realistic as the others.

I think people are missing the true significance of Avatar. I haven't seen any sports in 3D yet but I hear it's pretty sweet, as big a jump as SD to HD. All the 3D TVs and Blu Ray players you're seeing right now are thanks to Avatar. So if in 2 years you watch the SuperBowl in 3D you can thank James Cameron for putting 3D lipstick on a pig.
