LINK Thoughts? Comments? University of Houston just announced plans for a new stadium and are needing millions to help build it. I guess they want part of the money too.

U of H Fans demanding entrance to Big 12

Proposed New U of H Football Stadium

quote:

About two dozen Texas lawmakers are supporting efforts to get the University of Houston admitted to the Big 12 Conference.
State Reps. Garnet Coleman and Bill Callegari, both from the Houston area, co-wrote a letter Thursday asking Big 12 officials to consider adding the university to the conference.
"UH is the third largest university in Texas, and is on track to rank among the top research universities in this state," the letter says. "Despite UH's local and statewide prominence, the university does not belong to a strong BCS conference such as the Big 12. The Cougars, the city of Houston, and the state of Texas deserve better."

Their high school program has no business in the Big XII. They add nothing.

They beat Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, and Mississippi State last year. Not bad for a high school team. People like you "add nothing" to decent society.

Strangely, this IS about academics. Well, academic money. A&M and UT have grown, but receive too many instate applicants to accept all qualified applicants. It is likely the Legislature needs to "promote" a third public school to handle the overflow. The two options are Tech and Houston. If UH is not in a major atheltics conference, silly as it sounds, it probably kills any chance they have of getting the public funds that Tech will get.

Can we just do away with all pretense and call it the Texass Conference? At least I would respect the honesty.

Sorry, we're not gonna play the "what else" game? Even if it gives you the false sense of having an IQ.

Unfortunately the ability to play football is way down on the list as far a what is sought in an applicant for conference admission. If it were more important, TCU would be more sought after than Houston. The most important criteria is TV viewers, and while Houston has a ton of people, most of these are already considered part of the Big-12 viewership due to UT and TAMU. Even if the Texas politicians stick their nose in Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Iowa State, Oklahoma, and OSU have no reason to allow them in.

So basically the argument is....but this one time UH beat OSU and Texas Tech....so they should be in the Big XII.

-Despite the fact they don't fill the stands
-Despite the fact that adding them does nothing for TV dollars (UT, LSU, A&M all have more fans inside the loop than Houston has in the entire city and suburbs of houston)
-Despite the fact their academic standards are not up to par

You seem so adamant that they'd be a great addition, so there must be some obvious reasons.

What is it with you fools that you assume so much? I'm certainly not "adamant" and how you made that leap of logic is stupefying. Just because I don't agree with you 100% doesn't mean I disagree with you 100%. Your logic is child-like.

So why exactly is Houston good for the big xii. It is a very simple question that no one seems to want to answer.

After KU and Mizzou leave, the Big-12 will have to absorb most of the Mountain West just to remain viable.

Then it will be:
Texas/SWC Division: TU, A&M, TT, Baylor, TCU, SMU, Houston, UTEP
Mountain/West Division: OU, OSU, Wyo, CSU, Air Force, Boise, BYU, NM.

The Red River Rivalry will just get postponed to the Conference Championship Game.

After a while, only current non-BCS schools will be willing to let Texass screw them like they are the rest of Big-12 now. In fact, under that scenario, A&M and OU could still bolt to the SEC.
