As an lsu fan in houston I would love to see tam join the sec. We would finally get sec news in the local media. Also I think tam will begin to out recruit texas. If you are a high school kid in texas would you rather play in pac 10 or sec?

Houston will become an SEC city by far.

The one true constant is that all things change.

Wrong!!! They may still hold an edge (UT>aTm) but it will go from 70-30 to 55-45. (recruiting-wise)

That's cute. Kids here grow up wanting to play for Texas. It has always been that way, and it would take massive change (more than just TAMU moving to the SEC) to change that.

They want to play for Texas and the longhorns only have 20-25 scholarships a year to offer.

We have god knows how many teams and conferences and players in the state of Texas, so what are they going to offer them all?

They cant snag all of them

TAM will out recruit TX when they improve their program. I would be more worried with TAM out recruiting LSU in E TX and W LA as Less Smiles keeps taking us down.

Wow. That is so wrong. As long as UT is good, they will always have their pick of TX recruits.

Then why from 1984-2000 did Texas only win 10 games twice? Why did A&M dominate the rivalry from 1984 until the death of the SWC? Texas kids want to play for Texas right now because Texas wins. If they start losing... they'll go somewhere else.

mattz, how old are you?

i ask because when I moved to Houston in 1992, A&M was in the middle of a long stretch of recruiting domination over Texas. Ebb and flow, man.

People are looking at ATM now and judging their athletic teams based on where they are as members of the Big XII.

It's not a snapshot, it's a movie, and we haven't seen the end yet.

ATM will become a force in the SEC should they join.

This

A&M in the SEC offers a completely different option for kids in Texas. I actually think with Texas going to the Pac 16 it will help in recruiting in Texas for LSU. If A&M joins the SEC than that will hurt LSU going into Texas for recruits. Kids today are so different than 10 years ago. There are still going to be those kids that will go to the school they grew up a fan of but some could give two shits and what to go where they can start and get exposure. There are some really great players that leave Louisiana for that reason. The same goes for Texas!
All that being said frick Texas and I welcome A&M. The SEC is King and everyone else is our bitch! IMHO

Yet they couldn't sustain it. TAMU has only had a couple of stretches during their history when they were better than UT.

On a level playing field (both teams performing equally as well), UT has far more fans. No question. If you don't realize that, you didn't live in Houston very long.

15 years.

And "far more?"

And you didn't answer my question about how old you are.

No. I'm in my mid 20s. It's clear you know nothing about Texas, which is funny.
