For the past 35 years or so, the series between Texas and A&M is dead even. It just looks so lopsided when they show it on TV because from the 20s to the 70s Texas was far superior, and A&M was a small, all-male, agricultural college. For the past decade only, the Aggies haven't been able to sustain it because and only because of the football leadership at the school. Mack Brown has turned into a great coach, especially at recruiting.

RC Slocum was in over his head when A&M moved to the BIg XII, then Dennis Franchione absolutely stole money from the Aggies for 5 years.

My opinion is that Sherman is not the right guy for Texas A&M.

But if Texas A&M can find the right guy, they can start to defeat Texas more regularly. Once that happens, it will be back and forth. A&M has the resources.

mid 20s...

Then you have never lived in a world where Texas struggled as a football program.

It will happen again.

I'm just wondering how you are solving in your 21-yr-old head the incongruence of:

1. "kids will *always* go to Texas instead of A&M!"

...and...

2. the actual long domination of A&M over Texas in recruiting that I (and every other college football fan) witnessed in the 80's and 90's.

I'm not from Texas but it doesn't take a Texan to understand that kids, regardless of geography, want to play for a winner and want to play in the NFL. If guys are getting drafted from A&M, then they'll get players.

Texas sucked arse from the 80s until Mack Brown got there. They were alright but not a championship program. Hell, with all of their resources and money and clout they only have about 3 national titles all time. Alabama has 13 and is located in the USA's equivalent to Vietnam.

So don't say A&M can't pass Texas. It can happen and if UT goes through with this dumbass Pac 16 plan while A&M comes to the SEC, it probably will happen around the time Mack hangs up his whistle or shortly before.....

Way to twist what I said. Texas is the number one school in Texas. Throughout most of history, they have been the first choice.

Yes, for a short period of time, they were better than UT. It's also no coincidence that UT had losing records back then under a miserable coach like McWilliams. fricking UH owned Texas back then. It happens.

Here are the facts that you can't argue.

Texas has four National Championships. TAMU has one 70 years ago.

Texas leads that all-time series 75–36–5.

Do you think kids grow up in Alabama wanting to go to Auburn too?

Yes, I know they do.....our situations are not comparable, man. Not even close.....so don't show that you are as ignorant of the situation in Alabama as you are in your home state.

Hell, I can name you kids who went to Alabama recently who grew up wanting to play for Auburn but didn't get an offer.....

what you said: "Kids here grow up wanting to play for Texas. It has always been that way"

i'm merely pointing out that your 16-yr-old self is wrong. based on history. which you are apparently allergic to.

Yes. Texas is the No. 1 school in TX. TAMU being better for a short period of time doesn't disprove that.

You just ignored my post, which gave you the bigger history.

Since the 1975 game, Texas A&M holds a 18-17 advantage.

That means that for the last 35 years, many of which you weren't a sentient fan of college football, Texas and Texas A&M have competed on pretty even footing.

It does look like Texas padded the stats back before TV was invented.

Yes, by a few of you idiots who don't realize how closely-followed UT is compared to TAMU, and always has been regardless of the fact that TAMU was better during a short period of time.

TAMU's success occurred when UT was down. You really think that's a coincidence? Did I say that TAMU has never ever been better than UT? How do you explain UT's vastly superior history of success when compared to TAMU?

it would take massive change (more than just TAMU moving to the SEC) to change that.

Here's also what I said, which was conveniently ignored.

People on this board have been asserting that TAMU's move to the SEC would cause them to supplant UT in recruiting, which is silly. As long as UT is relevant, that won't be the case.

Now, if something causes UT to take nosedive - a lousy coach, USC-like penalties - then yeah, TAMU could get an edge. But all things equal, Texas is the local favorite, and history supports that fact.

A&M is perfectly capable of recruiting with Texas. There is more than enough talent in Texas for both Texas and A&M to have top 10 classes.

The Ags are one good coaching change away from being able to compete quite nicely.

And oh yeah, I'm 47, have lived in Texas since '67. SO yeah, I have a bit longer...

Uhh .."perspective".. than you do, amigo

UT hasn't historically been the No. 1 school Texas? When did I say TAMU was incapable of recruiting Texas? When did I say TAMU would never compete on the field?

That guy you have in your avatar supports A&M over tu.
He also has a library on A&M campus

I'm just messing with you mattz. I know where you coming from.
Texas only has 1 National Championship in the last 40 years, but those cocksuckers act like they win one every other.

By the way, I'm not an Aggie. I'm a Fightin' Tiger.
