Olajuwon is just such a different player IMO. I remember his game being what we consider big PFs. He is still one of the all time greats. :bow;

i know
i just think its stupid when people say Olajuwon dominated Shaq.
His team was better(swept them if i remember right). They beat Orlando, but he hardly dominated Shaq in that finals.

both were great, and its not a slight when I say Shaq in his prime was better than Hakeem.
some people will admire Hakeem's gracefulness and defensive prowess and just assume he was better, but i dont think he was.

i thought about KU but honestly they are in the next echelon
Posted on 3/30/10 at 8:56 pm to Lester Earl
how many teams are in the top echelon? which ones are better than kansas? legitimate questions, not mocking.

Shaq in his prime>>Olajuwon
I agree, Shaq from 1997 to 2003 was the baddest center to ever play. The NBA had to change the rules to allow zone defenses to stop him. This would have been like allowing tackling to stop Jordan.

Houston has a pretty good foundation...
Clyde Drexler
Elvin Hayes
Hakeen Olajuwon (owns Shaq)
just don't know enough about them to fill in the blanks
FWIW
Otis Birdsong
Don Chaney
Drexler
Hayes
Olajuwon
And Birdsong was no slouch:
quote:
During his All-American season in 1976-77, Birdsong was named Southwest Conference Player of the Year, after leading the Cougars to a 29-8 record and in the NIT’S championship game against St. Bonaventure. Birdsong scored 38 points and made 18 free throws against the Bonnies. He ranked fourth nationally and set an SWC scoring record with 30.3 points per game. These accomplishments resulted in Birdsong being named SWC player of the Decade.
Houston could pretty much beat anybody with that starting five. The program has been dormant for 20 years and its all-time team still looks better than the all-time teams of some of the more recognizable programs IMO

Out of all the ones listed so far UCLA and LSU are by far the best IMO.
UCLA's bigs are ridiculous and LSU guard combo with Shaq is close to unbeatable.

Alabama could make an elite 8 run:
Robert Horry
Antonio McDyess
Reggie King
Latrell Sprewell
Mo Williams
bench:
Gerald Wallace
Derrick McKey

although I'm not sure they've ever had anyone who could handle Shaq.
yet somehow teams in the NCAA from 89-92 handled Shaq
BTW: Lew Alcinder and Bill Walton could ball a little

I don't know what all the teams have, but Bama's team appears to be garbage.
Off the top of my head Wake Forest hasn't been mentioned and they can sport CP3 and Duncan.

kansas uses naismith as coach to somehow cheat and change the rules or some shite. we also stick dean smith and adolph rupp on our bench just so they cant coach for unc or kentucky.
then we win.
then we win.

the fundamental question to this discussion is do you get the college player or the nba player. i say college bc that makes kansas significantly better and other teams significantly worse.

They are 2 of the 5 greatest centers. Very different players though. I'd says its like comparing Greg Maddux and Roger Clemens

Memphis could start with:
g Derrick Rose
g Elliot Perry
f Anfernee Hardaway
f Rodney Carney
c Keith lee (two time first team, and once a second team all american)

Dude, he was the national player of the year in 1984, in COLLEGE.
He didn't score points like in did in the NBA, but there was NO SHOT CLOCK in the NCAA when he played and he played for the guy who's signature offense was the 4 corners.
