but this was discussed when Benson was playing his games. It's a horrible idea for so many reasons. Now that Benson has his deal, it's a non-issue.

It was actually discussed when Benson first started receiving money from the state to keep the team in NOLA.

Technically they are the Louisiana Saints, since they receive state funding. NO one liked the idea and loss/confusion of identity.

So they struck a compromise, and that's when the Louisiana patch started showing up on the uniforms.

North American Saints..nah, the rest of the world would be complaining..I guess we'll just have to stick with New Orleans Saints.

I'd be really upset if they did that. Everyone knows that North Louisiana and West Louisiana has always been Cowboys territory. Yeah, there are pockets of Saints fans, but mostly, it was Cowboys territory. New Orleans deserves to keep the branding.

Wrong. All of the inducement payments were made from hotel/motel taxes only from Orleans and Jefferson parishes. Anyway, there are no more inducement payments to the Saints under the new deal. Here is an article from last year (before the new deal) that explained where the money came from. It never came from the rest of the state. However, the state did negotiate the deal because all of the hotel/motel taxes go to the state first, bypassing the local parishes.

After winning the next 10 Super Bowls, we'll change the name to just "Saints", like Madonna or Bono.

North Louisiana sucks, Mississippi is a toothless trailer park and well Alabama has gumps so NO go cheer for someone else we are the NEW ORLEANS SAINTS and the only way that changes if the city is wiped off the map! So go sit on a bannana!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

What a jerk. I live in West Monroe, originally from CENLA, and am offended everytime someone tries to label anybody who lives north of I-10 as a Cowboy fan. Just ain't like that.

Bottom line is, next big hurricane that comes along, the Saints WILL be moving north or west.
Think about how you'd feel if the Saints had to play their home schedule at Independence Stadium for a season!

Hope that never happens, and that New Orleans stays high and dry. I'd prefer the Saints to remain New Orleans but no matter what they call 'em, I'll still love 'em, despite the small contingent of a**hole fans who think they're better than the rest of us.

I am North La born and raised, I really hate remarks such as this. We go to games every year.

But to answer the question, the Saints should always be the New Orleans Saints. Any other idenity would be a farce. New Orleans is probably the most unique city in the USA. We love the city and make several trips every year. Waiting till Sunday is a bitch, but thankfully, we have that problem !!

FWIW:

Shreveport, TX blows a fat one.
Up in Funroe, though, for as long as I can remember we have all been Saints fans who want to shoot our 60" flat screens when the Cowboys come on. The only good thing about Shreveport is the easy flow of traffic on I-20 that allows you to pass through without vomiting in your lap due to disgust.
Shreveport
That is all

P.S.- It should always be the New Orleans Saints

Probably has alot to do with BR being a big LSU town. Lafayette even back then was a huge saints town. Same for Houma.

Saints "territory" runs from Lake Charles to Pensacola and as far inland as Jackson. That's four states if you're counting.
So, no "Louisiana" Saints. Keep New Orleans for tradition, or, worst case, go with "Gulf Coast Saints."

So those payments that make the newspapers every year are just made up bullshite?

Please buddy. The state paid to keep them here and no bullshite articles change the fact that Benson has received money that was supposed to go to the state.

Apparently, this "everyone" that you're refering to are a bunch of retarded motherfrickers.

I'll watch the Saints without your approval b/c peeps that display their ignorance on line dont mean shite to me. It would be hard not to follow the Saints considering their games have been on weekly in NELA since the 70s. Some of you people in south Louisiana have are just dumb fricking slapnuts.
