Working at that Shakey's on Vets was my first summer job in 1966. Got $1.15 an hour to make pizza non-stop for 8 hours in the sweatbox. Employees could take home a free pizza after a shift, after my 1st shift on the 1st day I didn't eat one for about 2 years. Overload of the smell.

Don't think i can ever order a pepperoni pizza again after working in a pizza joint. The smell, grease on my hands and clothes, pools of grease that would burn you when you slice it right out the oven, grease stains on everything, etc...

I loved Shakey's. As a kid, watching the pizzas being made was fascinating to me, as I had an early love for making food.

My Shakey's would show old black and white movies of Laurel and Hardy etc on a projection screen, and they also had a gameroom with pinball machines.

The trampoline place was the best. The sprinklers to make the trampolines wet and you would bust your arse....that would be a law suit waiting to happen these days.

The first pizza I ever tasted was at Shakey's in Monroe. Damn that was a long time ago.

Otis probably used to hang out there.

I'm pretty sure Shakey's was the place that we would go to after highschool football games because they never carded ANYONE.

I remember Godfather's Pizza in N.O. East on Bullard. We lived right down the street. I still think they have a few somewhere in the U.S.

tons around Los Angeles. Just looked it up, looks like there are still over 50 locations. Says they have one in Auburn, and are opening soon in Miami, Hawaii, Washington, etc.

BR or Metairie would support one, right?

eta: i was talking about Shakey's.

don't remember the last time i saw a godfathers.

I remeber the one on the WestBank by the old Woolco store. we would go the show at the Westsidw theatre and then go and jump on the trampoleen on the side of the Shakey's resturant. We would end up eating some Pizza at Shakey's to finish off the days activities. Those were the days of my chil;dhood in the 70's. Great Memories of that place.

This site below has some clone style recipes for Shakey's pizza.

It's where I drank my first "dark" beer. Pizza was pretty decent and the piano music was enjoyable. Great memory!
