Ichiban... Went to yama once. After eating there I can honestly say I wish I had spent my money elsewhere. It was not gross but the place IMO is not on the same level as ichiban.

I prefer Ichiban. But I won't turn down Sushi Yama, either.

I personally don't like the dining room at Sushi Yama.. It's like a cafeteria. Their sushi though is very good, as is the sushi at Ichiban. For lunch, I go to Sushi Yama.. Dinner, Ichiban.

I am new to the boards but would have to say Ichiban. Not to mention this place is full of celebrities. My friend and I were in for lunch one day and we were sitting at the sushi bar next to WILL CLARK. I was freaking out. He actually talked to us. He said he goes there for lunch a lot. We do also but never seen him there. And then the other night a friend of mine said she saw an actor that was on the Sopranos in there. This place is a local papparazis dream.

, definitely The Ivy of Baton Rouge.

seriously though, people talk about freshness of fish, but i find no difference between yama, ichiban, or waka house. since they are all the same in that regard, i prefer waka because it is smaller and the roll creations are neat. after that i like ichiban, and to be honest i don't see myself returning to yama. rolls are $2-3 more and taste the same

Yama over Ichiban even though it is a little more expensive. Both are pretty good.

the sushi at yama is way better.
the atmosphere is better at ichiban.

since i don't give a frick about atmosphere when i'm eating sushi,
i say yama.
