Here's another scenerio....

LSU loses to Bama and finishes 10-2.

Bama loses to Auburn and Florida in the SECCG and finishes 11-2.

Who does Suger Bowl pick (Unless Florida crushes Bama, I don't think the Tigers rate ahead of Bama)? I think the Gumps.

In this scenario I think the odds favor LSU. Generally, these bowls don't like to take a team off a loss because they think it suppresses fans travelling. With two losses back to back? In addition, they tend to avoid repeat appearances if practical for the same reason. Combine the two and LSU will get a favorable look.

Given the difference in economic impact on New Orleans, they might even pick a 2 loss Alabama first

The Sugar has generally, if not always, picked the highest ranked SEC team available if the champion is not available, even if that meant picking LSU over another lower ranked team that might bring more money. But this year, LSU will either be in the BCSCG or no BCS bowl.

I suppose that if LSU wins the West and loses to Florida and Alabama loses to Auburn or MSU, the Sugar would have to pick between LSU and Bama. At that point the Sugar will still likely pick the higher ranked team, and that will depend on the margin of LSU's victory over Bama and the margin a 2nd loss to Florida. This all assumes that Florida is unbeaten. If Florida were to lose to UGA or FSU, and win the SECCG, Florida might not make the BCSCG, depending on what happens elsewhere, as with Texas, Iowa, USC, etc., and end up in the Sugar.

Theoretically, Alabama could get to the Sugar Bowl with 2 losses as West Champ and SEC champ, if LSU beats Bama, loses to both Arkansas and Ole Miss, and Bama loses to Auburn or MSU. Florida would get knocked out of the Sugar and the BCS NC game. Florida might be in the running for an at large bid to a BCS game at that point.

i would think that they would definitely take lsu for two reasons:

1- sec west champs
2- defeated bama

AL plays AU the last game of the reg season--loss one

The SEC CG is the next game--loss #2 in succession.

yeah....I think LSU best chance of Sugar is to lose to Bama and finish up 10-2 a-la 2006. LSU would be highly ranked and loser of SEC CG would slide to Cap 1 Bowl.

There's only one way i can see the Sugar Bowl picking LSU over Bama this year. If LSU beats Bama but then drops another (and only one) game to cede the west to Bama anyway

Assume Bama loses to Florida (because if Florida lost I think they likely go to the Sugar Bowl) and then you have a 2 loss bama team that went to teh sugar bowl last year vs a 2 loss LSU team that went to the sugar bowl two years ago... they probably take LSU over Bama in that unlikely scenario

I'll be nice since I think you are serious. The winner of the head to head gets the tiebreaker. LSU

lsu. we would own the head to head victory which is, in this case, the tie breaker.

You are all thinking way too far ahead. Focus on our next game one game at a time.

I thought it was contractual that the loser of the SEC championship game went to the Sugar ?

If the winner goes to the BCS NC game, the loser SHOULD go to the Sugar. But LSU fell all the way to the Peach in 2005 b/c UGA went to the Sugar.

2007 Tennessee - No BCS bowl
2006 Arkansas - No BCS bowl
2005 LSU - No BCS bowl

Unless they changed something recently, I don't think so.

It isn't contractual. There are other updates that you could all read on the bcs website. This topic needs to be added to the most misunderstood rules thread...

quote:

2. Unless they qualify to play in the NCG, the champions of selected conferences are contractually committed to host selected games:

Atlantic Coast Conference-Orange Bowl
Big Ten Conference-Rose Bowl
Big 12 Conference-Fiesta Bowl
Pac-10 Conference-Rose Bowl
Southeastern Conference-Sugar Bowl

3. If a bowl loses a host team to the NCG, then such bowl shall select a replacement team from among the automatic-qualifying teams and the at-large teams before any other selections are made. If two bowls lose host teams to the NCG, each bowl will get a replacement pick before any other selections are made. In such case, the bowl losing the No. 1 team gets the first replacement pick, and the bowl losing the No. 2 team gets the second replacement pick. If the Rose Bowl loses both the Big Ten and Pac-10 champions to the NCG, it will receive two replacement picks.

(For the games of January 2011 through 2014, the first year the Rose Bowl loses a team to the NCG and a team from the non-AQ group is an automatic qualifier, that non-AQ team will play in the Rose Bowl.)
