What about playing the other 11 SEC teams each year?

Food for thought as I absorb the idea of LSU playing FCS teams over the next few seasons: Have every SEC team play all other SEC teams...that is 11 games. You would get to play one OOC game to complete the 12 game schedule.
Two teams with best conference record would play in SEC Championship game (since the SEC would never eliminate that game for obvious reasons).
Dog the Pac-10 all you want, but I think it is cool how every team plays each other in football.
Now, this would never happen, but how cool would it be? Would reduce the OOC cupcakes from our schedule to a max of one. And it would better determine the SEC champion.
In a scenario like this, there would be some scheduling issues...as half the teams would play 6 home SEC games, and the other half would only get 5 home SEC games...

i liked the idea someone had of having the division record count for who wins the West then conference record...makes the division games count even more
playing all the other teams would be a fun season though, but it would never happen

there really would be no point in having an SECCG then...other then to possibly boot an SEC team from the NCG

id rather play one non conference team, one team from the other division. then play every team in your division twice.

I would rather have them be forced to play other Div. 1 teams instead of 1-AA. Getting bragging rights over the Big 10, Pac-1, Big 12, etc. would be more worthwhile than playing all the other SEC teams.

the cupcakes would all protest

Playing in the sec is hard enough with the 4 ooc games.
Until other BCs conferences do more to boost their schedules, I don't think we should.
Regular season inequality is the biggest problem with college football today. And no playoff fixes that.

I'm with you on this, that makes a much more legimate champion. And eliminating the "dog" games (USL, NLU etc.) would be worth it as well. When a team hasen't scored a TD in 75+ years, it's time to schedule someone else.
Is the SEC basketball schedule a home and home with all conference teams? I know it's not in the Big 12.

Doesn't this kill it? In years with 5 home SEC games, your OOC game has to be home just to get to 6.

With room left for 3 OOC games. Not just one.

Interesting idea chicken. It would either make the SEC unbeatable or completely destroy it.

It is the only way it should be done. It's only fair. The way it is right now, there are SEC teams that have in conference cubcake schedules while others play a jugernot. LSU and Florida play every year. While Ole Miss and Vandy play every year. The fact of the matter is that unless each team plays every other conference team the season is scewed. Noone would be able to rag on an SEC team for playing a bunch of powder puffs. Of course most of the teams would be dead by the end of the year.

Theoretically, that would be awesome.
Unfortunately, it would kill almost any chance for an SEC team to ever win a NC again. If the SEC were lucky enought to send a team after a season like that to the NC game, we would be sending a survivor , not a team.
Ultimately though, it would be a football fan fantasy come true. Though a lot of our fans would have more to complain about.

unless i missed it following a short review, no one has brought up money. we presently play 7 or 8 home games. playing the entire conference reduces our home games to 6 or 7. our ooc home games against cupcakes pays a lot of schollies. we pay ULL what, about $600,000? basically, chicken feed compared to what we gross. that one game (possibly 2) brings in millions of dollars. to keep our athletic budget the same, there would be a very large increase in ticket prices. football funds most, if not all, of the women's sports and the non-revenue men's sports. like it or not, if we want to stay in the top echalon of college sports, we need to bring in the competitive dough.

it would make playing a conference championship game (or having divisions) unnecessary at least - and probably silly
It would hurt the revenue for all the teams in the SEC since they would have fewer home money games (the profit per home game for LSU is really sizeable obviously)... and still make for uneven schedules since you would have either 6 or 5 home games in conference per year
Interesting idea but overall I don't think it could work... as a sidebar not all will care about I also don't like that it reduces the likelihood of seeing quality out of conference games between different major conferences
And besides, the whole purpose of conferences going to 12 teams was to get a regular season exemption and play a conference championship game - this would make that game fairly unimportant IMO

As soon as the cfb season expands to 16, you'll see this happen

That would work if one more team was added to the conference and one more game to the schedule. Convince Fla.State, Georgia Tech, or Clemson to join the S.E.C, then play 12 conference 12 games(6 home/6 away) and open the season with an OOC in-state "Sisters of the Poor" patsy. You'd have to eliminate the East and West divisions and S.E.C. Championship game, but there would be a true conference champion then with everybody playing everybody else......

Do you realy think if there wasn't a playoff system , that this format would breed a NC? I think the winner would have too many loses.
