what do you think?
from what i have seen:
1. BR - more diverse cross section of styles.
2. Avoyelles area - reminds me of acadiana, but more rural and soulful.
3. Acadiana - great, but not that diverse.
4. River Parishes - can find good stuff, but damn they love the tony's too much.
5. Nola - everyone eats out. sure there are some great cooks, but it's harder to have large gatherings and show your skills in an urban setting.
don't have much north La experience, someone could give more info than myself.

Sure they will. If you read between the lines he's saying all the NO home cooks are so good they had to go pro and start the best restaurants in the world.

Acadiana...and the rest are not even close. I have family from across SELA...this is not even a competition.

Certainly the board knows it is Orleans Parish followed by, my guess would be Northeast Louisiana due to that huge Sicilian population.
I think all areas have great cooks and I'll let everyone else beat each others heads in regarding the best area. I have relatives in most points of the state and Texas as well as Pennsylvania and New York. One makes killer meat pies, one makes great gumbo's, one makes excellant fried chicken some make great soups, scones, leg of lamb and the ones from Northeast LA make killer meatballs and pizza. Ok I made that last one up.
I live in BR and I can make all of the above because they all taught me and I learned. However since those didn't originate in BR I assume I'm disqualified.

they definitely cook up some great stuff at camps, but is all of their cooking too similar to be the best?

The chefs you've named may not originally be from NO but they ALL began they're culinary careers in NO and specialize in Cajun/Creole cuisine, which they learned how to cook in NO.

My Grandma from Pointe Coupee could out cook my Grandma from Opelousas by a slim margin, But her old black maid out did both of them.
There are good cooks and bad cooks everywhere.

So even if all of this were true (and it's not) they were still never really home cooks in the sense of the question. Just b/c the best chefs in La often end up in NOLA it does not mean that they have the best home cooks....same for NYC, SF, LA, Chicago, etc.

This is a shocking revelation...
As someone who has met a few of the Prudhomme family personally, I am sure his Mom is glad that someone in New Orleans taught him how to cook Cajun Cuisine.

yeah, Prudhomme definitely grew up cooking in Opelousas in a big food/restaurant family didn't he? didn't open K-Pauls until he was about 40.

I'll go with NOLA and Acadiana in a tie for 1st, the styles are different but, both are great.
Baton Rouge 2nd, because everyone who can cook from Baton Rouge are from the Acadiana and NOLA areas....
My buddies in laws are from the Thibodeaux and they aggrevate the crap out of me, because they no better and are the best in everything, so that area is last by default....
Sorry, people from any area north of the Platte I don't know about. I consider Ville Platte basically to be part of the Acadiana area..
