Would you sign that waiver for your kids?

quote:

The report comes a day after Smith uncovered that Tommy Whiteman, a 46-year-old former Houston Astros prospect, was the head coach for the THESA Riders based out of Fort Worth, and had previously worked with the Haskell High School softball team—located almost an hour north of Abilene—while also operating an indoor baseball and softball facility in Keller called Redemptive Sports. He is currently listed on the Texas Sex Offender Registry until 2030 for online solicitation of a minor back in 2010, meaning communicating or distributing sexually explicit material. He also has previous domestic violence and assault convictions in Oklahoma from incidents in 1999 and 2000.

quote:

The waiver mentioned nothing about his offender status. Smith posted that a THESA baseball parent told her that Whiteman only spoke of his troubles with pornography. He further elaborates on his arrest in the "About Me" section of Redemptive Sports' website, which also has its own waiver.

quote:

"Eventually I found myself in chat rooms late into the night while my wife and innocent infant daughter slept. I was engaging in inappropriate conversations that led to adultery. One of these online conversations ended up being with a minor…but it was never a minor…it was a police officer. The sting went down exactly like you would imagine on T.V. It was no question the worst day AND the best day of my life."

I'm all for people redeeming themselves, but no I will not sign a waiver for a guy caught chatting up what he thought was minor to be alone around my minors.

Glad that he's fixing his past, but find a different career path, bud.

ditto.

i'm all about redemption stories but whatever your future is, it can't be around something that could put you back into that sitation.

When pastors have affairs and confess, I don't want them to be forever exiled, but they also don't need to be pastors again.

There is grace and forgiveness, but also disqualification and consequences

He needs to find another career

This. Time to find a desk job or something. He gave up his right to do what he loves, which I presume is working with kids and teaching them the game. He should consider himself lucky that he isn't locked up and had the freedom to do as he pleases.

The “my kid is going pro”/travel ball parents probably signed this without even thinking about it.

As someone wrapping up a school admin masters it baffles me the admin team there would even entertain this, much less follow through with it.

He was a 30 year-old trying to hook-up with a minor, assuming 15 and under; then continues to try and hide it by saying he had problems with porn.

Dude needs to find another profession, or try to teach/train college aged or older players.

This guy needs to be realistic about his future opportunities. Guilty or not, I would never be around another kid in my life. Don’t even give anyone the opportunity to accuse you of anything like that.

"Tommy now spends his time pouring into young men around him" was probably not the best choice of words.

Forgiveness, yes. If I won't forgive others, the Lord won't forgive me.

On an unrelated note, I wouldn't give a recovering alcoholic a job at a liquor store.

Hell, part of his redemption should be him accepting the fact that he's just going to have to give up certain careers.

Gotta talk to Chris Hodges about that one and ask for the Dino Rizzo special.
