Quality of Life: 40

Louisiana ranks last in economic performance — a measure that includes income growth, employment trends, and overall fiscal stability. The state also scores near the bottom in education and health outcomes. Louisiana has a long history of ranking poorly on public safety as well, with some of the highest murder and violent crime rates in the U.S. over decades. These systemic trends position it as one of the most challenging states in which to live, according to livability metrics.

Granted, the stats are true but I’m sure folks are dying to move to flyover states like Oklahoma and Iowa

Iowa gave the WNBA Caitlyn
What did Louisiana do?

The idea of “they are too boring” makes little sense to Scruffy.

Because high trust states don’t have diversity

All those states > the northeast

Mississippi not last. Nor next to last. Nor next to last-last.

Teaching those kids to read really helped you guys.

Some of those states are literally like Leave it to Beaver

I moved from Albuquerque to Hammond in 2023. I thought I would feel a greater impact from the upgrade from 50 to 49. It's been subtle.

Why I love Louisiana… faith, family, friends, festivals, food, friendly people, culture, my career, LSU, outdoor recreation, hunting, fishing, Mardi Gras, sports, music, bayous, boating, forests, wetlands & warm winters.
US census data shows Louisiana is "most likely to keep its homegrown residents."

The demographic may be different, but there's trash everywhere. Vermont may not have hoodrats but it has copper thieving methheads aplenty.

Hell yeah, Alabama is almost out of the top 10 in this! Woot woot!

List is horseshite. Mississippi ranked 50 in education and health? States are literally trying to change their education system to match Mississippi now.

Part of the rankings is "access to health care"
What does that really mean?
Rural areas don't have hospitals? What state's rural areas has a proliferation of rural hospitals?
Is this some affordability issue? should states be handing out free needles to homeless drug addicts?
Is this some implied racism, where blacks don't think they can get medical help if needed?

Ugh
I really don't approve of these generalized "Best" / "Worst" states to live lists.
Every state has its good and its bad
If Arkansas could split into two different states. "West" and "East"
West Arkansas would be in the top 3 best states to call home.
