What the hell happened? Very surprised JJ did not evaluate this teams talent better. Why do we not have a hitting coach? Hope they get in the tournament somehow.

There is enough talent to compete at a higher level than this.

this is such a tired talking point by some. Jay and Co have shown time and time again that they can develop hitters and make them great, including this year. This team isn't losing games because of a lack of hitting. However, they definitely lack timely hitting.

Simple answer is they missed on everyone in the portal except for Cooper Moore, who has been out because of injury. We brought in players like Simpson, Dardar, Yorke and Caraway - all who were expected to contribute significantly to this team in some way, shape or form and it just hasn't worked out.

Yorke at 1B was a failure of epic proportions. He struggled at the plate and in the field and keeping him at 1st for so long cost this team a few games. Dardar showed some flashes, but inconsistency and poor defense killed him and now he's injured. Simpson seems lost at the plate, even against pitchers that aren't that good. His defense has also been subpar both when he played LF and now at 2B. Caraway has been injured as of late but he also struggled with consistency.

It seems now there's a mentality with this team that they're just waiting for something to go wrong instead of going out there and playing confident baseball with the abilities they know they have.

Preseason polls for 2025 had A&M at 1 and Virginia at 2 and they BOTH failed to make a regional.

I know it’s easy to say that we relied on the portal too much and should be more focused on developing the players that are on the roster, but that’s kinda been bad this year too. 6 of the 8 position players were on the team last year. 2 of the 3 starters, and the majority of the pitching staff is also returning players as well.

That doesn't mean it's perfectly fine & acceptable for that to happen at LSU. (As so many of the excuse spewing Pump Trash promote as part of their "Mediocrity Acceptance" shtick) .

The players, scheme and season didn’t turn out like Jay or basically anyone else including you and I and we, thought they would.

That happens.

Also preseason poles are a good guess at best and should be considered as such.

So fire JJ?

I'd sign up for this year if means we would've won 2 of the last 3 national titles.

There are 2 college baseball coaches with multiple NC and Jay is one of them. We have the best coach in college baseball. Bad years happen.

Atm was coming off a CWS runner up though and had talent galore. They only lacked their coach that brought them there. I guess talent and coaches matter. Regardless preseason anything is stupid and should never be used as a measuring stick.

Baseball polls are pretty irrelevant especially before any team has played.

One thing is clear: our talent was overrated by everyone who pays attention to such things.

I have a good friend (OM fan) that’s a student of baseball and was in Oxford last weekend.

His assessment on LSU - they don’t care that they suck.

I think he’s right. They have enough talent to win every midweek and to be more competitive on the weekends.

100% Agree
Begrudgingly of course. I was really hoping it was a mental / team continuity thing that they could work through, but it’s becoming blatantly obvious they physically can’t do it at this level.

I think there is something to the fact that the core of the best players on the team (position players) are all draft eligible with a championship in their back pocket.
