White House calls oil CEOs as energy prices squeeze voters

Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum will urge the heads of top U.S. oil and gas companies in a call Thursday to increase drilling in a bid to lower oil prices, four people with direct knowledge of the call told POLITICO.
White House officials have invited the CEOs of Exxon Mobil, Chevron, Occidental Petroleum, Continental Resources and other major oil companies to Thursday’s call, according to two of the people, both of whom were granted anonymity because they were not authorized to speak with reporters.
Company representatives didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.
In a statement, the White House said Burgum and Wright are in “constant communication” with oil and gas executives to push President Donald Trump’s energy dominance agenda.
“Having discussions with oil and gas executives to find ways to increase production is not breaking news – it is a regular occurrence. Since day one, the president has called on companies to ‘DRILL, BABY, DRILL,’” White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers said.

Waste of time. First, drilling can’t help with a short term price problem, and second, oil execs aren’t going to do something that’s not in their companies’ interest.

They'll take it under consideration.

You’re not wrong with first and certainly not with second. However, I don’t believe it’s a waste of time.
Having our Secretary of Energy and Interior, being how much domestic oil & gas is under Federal Lands, in constant communication with US O&G companies seems like a good and positive thing. Our previous idiot Sec of Energy and previous Interior Secretary seemed to only talk with industry when they wanted to chastise us for something.

Elections are coming! Hurry up and fix the mess we made!

Whoa, hold up. We've been told high gas prices were a price to pay (and seemingly should be thankful) and it is short term only.
Why is the White House calling Oil companies to rescue them from their own actions?

It's a fluid situation.
There are a lot of those these days.

Maybe.
But at least Chris Wright isn’t as dumb/ignorant as Jennifer Granholm was to “advise” industry to “temporarily restart” decommissioned refineries to help lower gasoline prices.

What’s wrong with the government talking to companies to say: hey guys, prices are high. We want lower prices. What can we do on our end to get prices down? Are there regulatory hurdles to increasing supply? Are there transportation bottlenecks which we could help ease? Is insurance, litigation, or financing the issue? What do y’all need from us?

Do you think that the administration isn’t able to assist oil companies with their own interests?

Stop exporting refined oil.

That victory lap about the Straits being completely open didn't work to lower prices.

Bingo, this is spot on
November coming up in a hurry and if gas prices are still a disaster a lot of folks will absolutely vote with their wallet in that aspect.
I fully expect to see the "I did that" but with trump stickers on pumps if gas prices still suck come Oct/Nov. It's fair play. Cant dish it out back in 2021/2 and not expect it in return

Lulz
Theres a law for that: Defense Production Act
They want to slow roll production? It can be seized. There are tankers sitting everywhere waiting to be offloaded. Drilling is a BS obstacle at present. Stockholders want energy savings as well as profit

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with any of that. Continued open dialogue with industry, whether oil is $50/bbl or $150/bbl, is a good thing, in my unprofessional opinion. Better than the constant chastising that other Administrations and politicians have done.

I’m sure he could? I’m going to tell you again, no oil company is going to produce an extra barrell because the president asks them too. They might put on a show, and pretend that they will, and this might give the president some political cover, but that’s all it is - political theater.
I’ll tell you what will cause oil companies to produce more - higher prices.

So…if there are tankers everywhere waiting to be offloaded why do we need to increase drilling? Sounds like we need to increase offloading.
This has nothing to do with slow rolling anything. Oil companies have drilling plans in place. They can’t just suddenly ramp up drilling. It’s a complex process of finding oil, drilling test and delineation wells, then commissioning production facilities and pipelines. It takes about seven years for substantial production to hit the market. Trump might be dead before that happens.
Even in shale fields it takes too much time to change drilling plans, and get incremental oil production into pipelines, in time to meet this short term supply bottleneck.
And oil companies are not going to do it even if they could because when the artificial bottleneck is removed the prices will plummet.

They are not calling on them to "rescue" them. They are having a God damned meeting.
Is that the only event going on today?
You assholes constantly embarrass yourselves by looking at one event in isolation.

It's amazing how you people constantly bitch about something like high gas prices, but then also bitch when the administration does anything to fix what you were bitching about in the first place.
There must be a lot of joy in pointless bitching, but I've never felt it.

It's politico.
Probably a routine meeting to discuss expanding drilling. No one in that room believes that discussion would ease prices now and that's not what the discussion is even for.
