Dale was awful on that.

Just a shite person.

“Look at me! Look at me!”

On the bright side, he’s probably punching air at the return of Will Wade.

Has always been that way, never forget his campaign and using Brando a few years ago to keep Sue Gunter’s name from joining his in the PMAC court.

Hopefully the new court in the new arena has Mulkey as nattys required for that honor.

Look, Dale was the only basketball coach I knew at LSU for my first 25 years of watching LSU hoops and his teams gave me some of my greatest memories in sports growing up and beyond.

But yeah, that show brought it all flooding back - the cringe stuff, the hyperbole, the exaggeration for effect, basically the Dale being Dale. I didn't come away telling folks - man - that was great - gotta watch it - like some folks did. I came away thinking that was the Dale I remember and I don't really want to re-live that. Just give me the on court highlights.

Dale has his faults, but he made LSU basketball in the modern era. We can only hope to attain those heights again......

I used to hate on Dale because he brought the team to the dance but could never get them over the line. When he had Shaq and CJ and Stanley, I really got pissed because it was obvious he wasn't a coach and more of a figurehead. Losing Tex didn't help either. But.....and it's become a big but, not just anyone could come in and get them to the dance as we have seen. Brady had a final four but Brady had some dog shite years. Other than that, Will has been the only consistent winner. Be careful what you wish for is a good lesson here when Dale finally left.

Dale's record speaks for itself & he can be judged, either way, by LSU fans. But, as a person, he's been described by more than a few sources, back in his prime, as the most vindictive coach on campus. He basically went to war on Smoke, as a head coach, his jealousy being almost juvenile-like.

He allegedly kept a file in his office on almost anyone he had any sort of business with.

He did more good and kind and selfless things for folks than I'll ever do in my lifetime and he should be commended for that.

But yes, there are few folks that I've followed in my many years following sports that could be as vindictive as Dale - so you got both ends of the spectrum with him.

For those who have followed Dale from the beginning there is one common thread that drove him and made him who he was, and he constantly harps back on it - he did in the documentary - he painted his Mom as a very meek and humble person who was shite upon and taken advantage of by the system and by his father - and he spent his whole life fighting back against those perceived injustices done to his Mom by fighting anything that reminded him of it....and with passion and fire uniquely Dale.

As they say, passion is the true enemy of reason and that played out for Dale quite often.

He grew up without a dad who abandoned him and his mom.

I'd say he did alright for himself and gave us some great memories.

I've met him numerous times, going back from when I was at LSU, to flying the LSU basketball teams to NCAA regionals, to being at his retirement celebration dinner in the PMAC, he's got a temper, and a short fuse, but the players loved playing for him because they knew he would literally go to the mats for them, and even though we only knew each other peripherally, he always treated me like a favorite son, VIP, and as if we were old friends, every single time I was around him

I am a big Dale Brown fan.
He brought LSU basketball to a level of national prominence that no one has before or since.
I attended the 1981 Final Four in Philadelphia as an LSU student. All of these people hating on Dale Brown are probably too young to remember those days.

I know things were not great at the end, but few storybook careers last for three decades.

The Assembly Center used to be jam packed from the bottom row, all the way to the top all the way around; student section on the sides was full too.

It was a scene man!

Dwayne Scales Dunks! There goes the Astronaunt launching one again.

Who on here was fortunate enough to have seen Scales slam one? (And witness the "Marvelous" drumming of Semjase in the 80 and 81 GBFTL Basketball Band)

Bobby Knight on Dale Brown:

“It didn’t look good,” Knight said. “In fact, my assistants had just about given up, and so had I. Then I looked down toward the other bench, and I saw Dale Brown standing there. I knew then that we had a chance.”

I met him a couple of times as a teenager, he was very gracious but I was a kid and a fan and he was good at turning on the charm in that setting.

The temper as you say, was real and it showed itself a good bit more than the things that came out publicly like the run in with the state policeman, the dorm showdown with Curley and the subsequent run-in at that a lady cop there, the reaction when they approached him about Gunter and he sharing the court name. The vindictiveness was real and could be pretty extreme and petty....the kind acts could be extreme too.

That was Dale.
