Skenes has rebounded nicely in his 3 starts since that opening day disaster.

He went 6 innings tonight and gave up a single hit, (a 2 out homer in the 1st, which was the only run he gave up), while striking out 6.

Over those 3 starts he has given up a total of 6 hits in 17 1/3 innings pitched, walked 5, and just 3 earned runs while striking out 17

That’s an ERA of 1.56 and a WHIP of 0.635

What a strange first game he had this season He will have his ERA down around 2 by the end of the year.

He has already lowered it from 67.5 after game 1 to an even 4

His ERA would be sub 2 right now if the scorekeepers gave Cruz the errors (at least one of them)

Still can’t get any run support. Pirates only have 15 runs today.

Yes and he has actually been on an absolute heater himself since Opening Day. He has like 6HRs, 7SBs, batting around .355. He has made some interesting plays in CF but he hasn't had the miscues he had that first day. He wont ever be a Gold Glover but the bat and speed have so much potential they will overlook the circus act in the field. Kinda like the Cubs did with Sosa in the late 90s-early 2000s.

Man it irked me that an outfielder could play a ball so poorly that it resulted in a hit.

We can’t hang that one on the fielder?

As soon as Skenes left, the Pirates immediately gave up 6 hits and 4 runs in the next inning

They were up 15-0. They put in a shite reliever so they don’t waste their good ones for the upcoming games. Since the win was 99% secured.

That is how baseball works.

Still unacceptable. He’s too good to have a bad game, especially on an opener! They need to trade him to a better team immediately!

Sosa was an average defender in his prime, I wouldn’t call him a “circus act”. He also was 30/30 twice

They do seem to actually be trying to build a team now

It played into Paul Skenes getting pulled in the first inning after 37 pitches.

Since analytics is all the rage now, can we finally quit pulling pitchers because an error was made or some team loaded the bases on an infield hit and 2 bloopers?

How was that last play not an error?

Hopefully they do. That franchise has been suffering for so long because of poor owners. I was looking at some of their previous season records and I didn’t realize how bad they have been since 1992. Only 3 winning seasons and 3 playoff appearances. I’m not a Pittsburgh fan but I would love to see them start having some success again.

It's 1-0 after the 1st if Cruz doesn't misplay 2 balls.

Score was already 2-1 with the bases loaded on that first one in the video. Cruz makes that play, and it's 2-2 with the runner on 3rd tagging. Next at bat would have been an easy fly ball to end the inning.
