Superintendent Letter

Just before Easter holidays Allen parish teachers received and email from the superintendent. In the letter he covered the May 16th election about amendment 3. He was basically saying if this passes and teachers get a raise from the state, then Allen parish would no longer be able to pay out the stipends they have been giving out. The stipends are around 4000 dollars altogether as compared to Vernon who gives 12000 dollars to their teachers. He also said he couldn’t use co2 money for teachers because he nor the board could do this. I don’t understand this either. Also enrollment is down parish wide so we are losing MFP money. So I can’t tell if he was trying to get votes for the amendment or against it. I find it hard to believe he wrote this because he never explains anything it’s his way or no way. Maybe one of his high priced Assistant superintendents wrote it . That would make more sense. Very strange that they will possibly not give out stipends anymore. Since we lost the Indian money ( coushatta) we have been getting stipends. Where was that money during the Doucet-Reed days. Something is not adding up. With all the raises the school board has received maybe they spent too much money. Who knows? Don’t think will ever find out the truth.

You are a teacher and this post is an example of your ability to write and convey a message? That’s the more pressing matter here.

Agree. We need to see the email without commentary to determine what’s going on.

Isn't this how it is supposed to function?

What is keeping you from teaching in Vernon? Are they having the same enrollment issues?

Isn't this a given? They are already bloated with way too many people; especially with enrollment numbers dropping; and they can always manage to find money in a budget for raises while relying on stipends to increase teacher's pay

Why would a raise from state funds affect money coming from local funds? This makes no sense. It sounds like it is not a have to but a want to. Like, well they will be getting state raise so we can keep the local funds, they will make the same money and we can use those funds for tons of brother-in-law boondoggles.

Could you upload a copy of this letter?

One thing I read was that if some bill passes it would guarantee raises for “x” number of years but the district would have to fund them.
Not sure if this is what they are talking about.

Even the Superintendent isn't high priced.

you're not losing shite. Why do you think enrollment is down? Kids are going private because the system sucks. Too many chiefs and not enough indians.
