A lot can be said about portal misses, but we simply have no dominant arms....

Evans is a supporting actor as is Schmitty

Would be great #3 and #4 type guys in a long form tourney.

If we can get two top notch arms in the portal those dudes could help us on an omaha run next year.

Here's to hoping Jay can keep the good pieces from this year and flush the bad ones.

I personally believe he can.

Portal is a crap shoot. The days of seeing a consistent power year in and year out are over, imo.

Evans or Schmidt as a number 4 would be insane for a team to have. That’s not very realistic. I agree with your sentiment of no dominant guy though although they can get there next year. Schmidt can easily be that if he works in his efficiency, but he’s not there yet. You’re also forgetting we have a starter out. Schmidt was our number 3 all year.

They are both good SEC starters. Not dominant all americans, but they are not the main reason behind this team’s struggles

Pitching has been adequate..Defense and situational hitting has been terrible compared to.what we are accustomed to..No team identity.A lot can be improved but Pitching is not at the top.

Skenes and Tommy Tanks were not crap shoots, easily identified as tops in the portal and JJ closed.

He must get back to that level of identification and recruitment or this program will languish in mediocrity.

If our catching and defense were improved I would imagine our arms would be just fine.

It seems like the walks and hit batters are worse this year but I haven’t looked it up for comparison. I believe it’s fairly simple. This team has no leadership.

We lost on Reddemann but he is a west coast guy and I doubt UCLA outbid us. Volchko was a unique situation wanting to graduate then transfer. Valencias wasnt going anywhere other than State. I’m not sure who else Jay could have gotten. I guess Mack at Tennessee.

Schmidt and Evans have shown ace potential. Next year could rival Anderson/Eyanson.

If a starting pitcher gives up 3 or 4 runs, and your team leaves runners on base in scoring position multiple times a game, the problem isn't the pitching.

No, we do not have Skene, Eyanson, or Anderson but we have good pitchers, certainly good enough to have won at least half the games we have lost.

Fielding and hitting have cost us much more IMO.

They are all extremely young and inexperienced starting pitchers. There is a ton of potential there. Schmidt could be a first round guy.

Relying on the portal is feast or famine. You never get to see the value of investment until they are suited up and in the field or at bat.

Look at the Yankees, who are the closest comparison to building rosters in FA, which is what college is now. It hasn’t exactly worked out well for them. I have faith that CJJ will continue going after the best and will have a success sooner than most. This year just didn’t work out.

Bullpen is horrendous again and just as important we have only 1 real infielder and that's Milam. Catcher and all the infielders are below average.

We have plenty of usable arms. Need a lefty starter. Evans and Schmidt are good enough to win plenty of SEC games.

You’re proving my point.

The portal is a roller coaster.

It’s almost like it is difficult to repeat in the age of NIL and transfer portal.

"LOUISIANA LIFERS" all up in here defending and making excuses for dysfunction and mediocrity.

That's what yall do in all LSU Sports and all the other aspects of your existence.

It's why the State of Louisiana is so messed up and why so many LSU graduates get the frick out!

Haha. The Indiana fan has entered the chat to tell people how to expect excellence on a consistent basis.

Baseball America posted their top 2027 draft prospects a couple days ago. Evans and Schmidt came in at #6 and #7 overall. #4 and #5 pitchers.

The hoops that some of you jump through to try to convince yourselves and others that Jay has no talent or money to work with is truly astonishing.
