Well, there are peptides... and then there are PEPTIDES. The latter are notable for making up most of the extremely toxic fraction of the venom of cone snails, a beautiful but potentially deadly scourge for divers in tropical and even cool subtropical oceans (such as off the coast of Southern California), worldwide. These same PEPTIDES are being examined for potential medical use-- some conotoxins have an anaesthetic effect greater than morphine or it's derivatives.
