He was never on the table for us for multiple reasons.

No good coach wants to coach here anyway plus I don’t believe Gayle would ever pay the amount of money to acquire I established high level coach

Pelicans owner is a cheap arse.

She would rather hire a cheap unproven assistant than pay a proven championship winning coach.

Is UNC really better than an NBA job?

I'd rank a few college jobs better than the Pelicans job to be honest.

Source tells
@On3
that Michael Malone was a top name in the New Orleans Pelicans coaching search, but he ultimately decided to take the North Carolina job.

I would have enjoyed him down here...

He was in NOLA in the early 2010s as an assistant

Honestly, he probably can see that the Pelicans are either going to be rebuilding and be shite for 3 years or are not going to be rebuilding and be shite anyway.

They should keep Borrego around and let him coach a rebuild as no proven coach who wants to win a title wants to tank.

Malone is someone you hire in 3 years once this thing is getting turned around and it’s time to start winning.

Shamit said on Twitter the only two names with any smoke has been Ham and Mosley from the Magic. Emphasized nobody in the league thinks a first time head coach would take this job. Guaranteed to be a retread

A coach is only as good as his/her best player.

Mike Malone was fired from his first job (Sacramento) and a sub .400 coach throughout his first three years as an NBA Coach. Then, some over-weight, unheralded second rounder from Serbia found his way on to his roster and suddenly Mike Malone is a basketball genius.

Malone is not the right coach for the Pelicans. When the best player (so I am told) on the Pelican roster is an undersized, no defense, one-trick pony, Mike Malone would merely revert back to his mean. We would be in the same spot we are now three years from now.

I'd much rather our Dynamic Duo do the necessary work to find a young coach to develop along with our kiddie corps roster. They need to find the Pelicans version of Mark Daignault, Joe Mazzulla, or Eric Spoelstra. Frankly, I doubt that Dumars and Weaver are capable of conducting such a coaching search, but we will see.

I would love to land Dan Hurley

Remember, there's always a reason why retreads are retreads.

Well, if you’re gonna go back to college, UNC may be THE job.

True!!!

The pels haven't got an Alpha-Dog and our Betas are all - meh!!!

In fact, the only player on the roster with any hope of developing into an Alpha-Dog is rookie, Jeremiah Fears.

Three more games and 1 player will certainly be changing uniforms; I pray, AT LAST!!!

Mike was not an option for us just like Jenkins won’t be an option.

They don’t fit either of the 2 criteria that will be needed for the job.

1) Cheap

2) Black
