Planning a trip to Maine in july with the family and would appreciate input. Will be two adults and two kids ages 12&15. like to hike, hit the beach, cool restaurants and hopefully get on the water at least one day. 10-12 days for the trip. initial thought is to fly into Boston and see a sox game and then drive up through maine and end up at Acadia Natl Park. which town ls to stay in? how long to stay in each area? thank you!

Did this a few years ago. We stayed in an AirBNB near Camden. We stayed for a week total and really enjoyed it. So nice to get away from the Louisiana heat.

If you end up in Kennebunkport, check out the Nonantum Resort. We stayed with kids a few years back and loved it! Real family feel with incredible breakfast each morning.

I recommend you might visit Portland, Boothbay Harbor and East Boothbay.
There is a great lobster pound named Young's in Belfast.

Nonantum has lobster boat tours, sailing trips and fishing charter right from dock

The breakfast is buffet style and is included in cost of staying

Whitewater rafting on the Kennebec is a good family activity. There are some pretty cool lodges with lots of amenities over there.

We did a quick getaway to the Lobster Festival in Rockland last summer and had a blast. One day we headed over to Boothbay Harbor for the Cabbage Island clambake, which I highly recommend. Hope y'all have an amazing time!

Second the Cabbage Island Clambake. Worth the time and money. Make your reservation as far in advance as possible.

Bar harbor is filled with souvenir shops. When the cruise ships arrive the town quickly gets overwhelmed with tourists. It wasn’t my favorite to be honest. Boothbay Harbor was a great spot to visit as was Kennebunkport. I could honestly spend a week in Portland eating and drinking

We went in October. Flew into BOS, nice Italian dinner in town, historic walking tour, then on to a couple of nights in Stowe, then to Portland. Our plans to have a couple of nights in Kennebunkport were thwarted by me getting deathly ill (unrelated to the travel), but it was the perfect itinerary. And Stowe is a super cool town, and your kids can check off several states in one trip. The Portland airport versus Boston was such a breeze too (thankfully).

We started in Bar Harbor and worked our way down the coast over the course of several days.

In Kennebunkport, a waiter recommended we go to NH and check out the White Mountains. Good tip. We enjoyed a few days exploring that area.

Going up Mount Washington was a trip highlight. We rode up in a big van because it was closed to all but motorcycle traffic that day; Laconia Motorcycle Week was on. I'm glad, because it would have been scary AF to drive up it myself. It made the road up Pikes Peak look like a freeway in comparison.

If you like woodworking or badass tools, take a stop at the Lie-Nielsen Toolworks showroom in Warren, Maine.

They are one of the greatest tool makers in the world and produce heirloom quality hand tools there in Maine. You can even try out some of their planes and chisels on some wood.

Amazing place and great people. You don't want to miss American craftsmanship on display.
