Two good restaurants are Louie’s Backyard and Latitudes, the latter of which you get to by boat.
Hemingway House and the Truman Little White House are worth a visit.
The Butterfly Sanctuary is cool.
If you want a beach, the one next to the fort is okay.
We like staying at the Key West B&B.

Lattitides on SSK has ambience and the views, but the food is basically a heat and serve operation with the food being plated very nicely.

For the same price you can rent your own boat for half a day, sail out with a a meal you bought on shore and have a better and more private experience IMO.
I also suggest the sea plane over to the dry tortugas. More expensive than the ferry but if you take the first trip of the day you will basically have the entire island with just you and the people who joined you on the plane before a few hundred arrive by ferry.

Cafe Sole is my favorite restaurant in Key West. Latitudes has amazing view and Louie’s Backyard is amazing. Jimmy Buffett old hangout.

Before dinner there, we had drinks at the outdoor bar overlooking the water. When they would play the song, people would sing along and cheer when the lyrics
Sure could use a Bloody Mary
so I stumbled over to Louie's Backyard
came up.
Great atmosphere and delicious food.

Cafe Sole is really good. That’s the place people in the biz on the island go on special occasions. Lacks a bit of the ambiance and feeling as some other places. My go to for taking first time visitors for dinner is often Blue Heaven. They do a great breakfast but the wait ain’t worth the experience these days. For Breakfast I usually take people to either Hot Tin Roof or Banana Cafe.

Can anyone quickly figure out how to sail a boat? Or does it take a lot of experience?

I wouldn’t rent a sail boat but you can rent a deck boat or pontoon easily.

The bottoms there are sharp limestone, very unforgiving.
A novice sailing there will find a way to make sailboat and some limestone come together in a bad way.
Get a motorized boat but again, that’s not for a novice there either. Lotsa wind & tides, irregular underwater topography and other shitty “captains-for-a-day” doing stupid stuff with boats there.
Unless you’re experienced in that type of location, charter a boat with an operator there.
