AMERICAN FORK, Utah — On October 31, 1974, the family of Laura Ann Aime reported her missing. Twenty-eight days later, hikers found her body partway down an embankment just off the American Fork Canyon Road by hikers who were in the area.

Now, 18,780 days after she was reported missing, investigators confirmed that Aime was killed by noted serial killer Ted Bundy.

"We bring this case to a closure and more importantly closure to the Aime family," Utah County Sheriff Mike Smith stated at a press conference Wednesday morning

Smith said the break in the case came following investigators' reviewing every cold case in Utah County. The sheriff added that the investigators in 1974 did a good job in preserving the evidence, which provided crucial information to the detectives.

Bundy had confessed to killing Aime, but investigators had held off on concluding that he had committed the murder due to the lack of physical evidence at the time. Now, over a half-century after Aime's body was discovered, police say they can claim without a doubt that Bundy was the one behind the murder.

Ted Bundy, more than any other criminal, is terrifying to me because he looks so normal and basically like the boy next door. Glad the evil motherfricker is dead.

What makes people go completely off the rails and bat shite insane like that is a mystery to me. Must have been abused as a kid. At least the family gets a little bit of closure with this information.

Bundy admitted to 30 murders I wouldn’t be surprised if actual number was double that. He was a sick puppy.

Nope. What did probably screw him up was that he was raised to think his Grandmother was his mother and who he thought was his sister was actually his mother. This was done because he was born out of wedlock.

The DNA that was developed throughout the review of the case could also prove helpful in further investigation into Bundy's crimes. A detective with the Utah County Sheriff's Office says that they have been able to share their DNA profile with other departments.

They added that they believe that profile will result in the closing of another case in the near future, but they didn't specify which case.

Apparently the "CSI" mentality whereby DNA is needed to conclusively solve a crime was already in place many years ago, even though Bundy confessed to the crime. I hope this brings closure to the family, but I suspect they made peace years ago when Bundy confessed.

I saw an interview with a family member, I think it was the victim's sister, she said she was surprised when the call came in saying Bundy had been identified as the killer through DNA. She said the family already believed that and she was surprised authorities were still working the case. She was very grateful however, for definitive proof.

I don’t think he’d not take credit if he had killed more.

Ted Bundy, by all accounts, had a normal middle class upbringing. There were warning signs early on in his childhood but nothing that could be chalked up to abuse. Bundy himself actually blamed pornography when he was being interviewed while on death row.

The whole “Ted Bundy is handsome and normal looking” thing is baffling to me.

Are you people looking at the same weirdo I am?

Probably 70% of men watch porn? I don't see the connection

Bundy was also psychologically disturbed from a young age. His aunt claimed that he was placing knives underneath her bed as a toddler while she was sleeping. Police in Tacoma also suspect that he was behind the murder of 8-year-old Ann Marie Burr in 1961 when Bundy was just 14 years old, though there is no definitive proof to this day that it was him.

Not an excuse... The same scenario happened to me and I'm normal. I mean I'm on the OT but I'm normal other than that.

Yeah, Christian family/marriage counselor James Dobson was the last person to interview Bundy. Yes, Bundy attributed a lot his problems to pornography. Dobson had a number of popular books in the 80's-90's and a long running radio series, "Focus on the Family." Strangely, Dobson also performed CPR on Pistol Pete Maravich when he collapsed taking a break during a recreational basketball game w/ Dobson and his friends. Dobson had invited Pete to speak at his church's men's symposium. Dobson and friends regularly played basketball at the church's gym. Dobson invited Pete to play some games w/ them. He suffered his fatal cardia arrest when they took a water break.

Can't remember were I saw it but there was a documentary on this piece of shite. Reenactment of his execution. Had him kneel down on a chair and shoved rags up his butt so he didn't shite all over the chair. They weren't gentle with the process.

I lived in Des plains Illinois when I was young. My brother was going to cut this guys grass, but something came up and couldn't do it. The guy that needed his grass cut was John Wayne Gacy. Talk about a close call.

Im.with you on that. What makes a person just snap or what or why does a killer like Dahmer and Bundy or even BTK think that way? Is it something that develops over time? Is it one instance that breaks there mind? I mean without a thought I could easily kill someone and not think twice if it was to protect myself or my family. But to kill a human being just for kicks? You have to be one twisted frick! Hell Ive stopped hunting over the years bc I dont eat enough of the wild game and the deer and.hogs have family's as well. I hate even accidentally running over a squirrel. Soft AF in my old age
