When did the US become so hypermedicated to the point of persistent hypochondria?

Example, I came across a video earlier with a woman saying she didn't want people wearing Apple Watches at her wedding, which you know, is kind of dumb, but whatever...but the comments were littered with younger people saying they would skip the wedding because they NEED their Apple Watch 24/7 to monitor their heart rate, steps, sugar, sodium, "defective nervous system".

Like when did this shite become so normalized? Jesus no wonder kids and young adults these days are nervous wrecks all the time, they're constantly being fed medical info in addition to the electronic device addictions.

Since every other woman started going to therapy and insisting therapy is the answer to everything. When my dog died last year and I picked his ashes up from the funeral home there was a pamphlet in there about “seek out therapy after the loss of your pet”. It’s gotten out of hand and those therapist write scripts for everything.

When they realized they could make a shitton of money by medicating the normal human condition. The desire for things to be just fine all the time is retarded.

While I’m sure some people would fall into that category, the majority of people replying are simply addicted to the information connectivity of their devices but try to give a more “socially acceptable” reason for their behavior. Not dissimilar to the recent uproar over SNAP changes. Instead of people saying “poor people should have the luxury to use their SNAP dollars however they want”, people started coming out of the woodwork defending candy in a can because people “need them to balance their blood sugar”. It’s just a more socially acceptable stand in argument.

People want to have “a thing” they can attach their identity to on social media. We are in a world where people “support a cause” by doing look at me shite.

I’d need a detailed explanation as to why I couldn’t wear my Apple Watch to a wedding.

I'm more concerned with the overprescription of mind-altering, psychoactive pharmaceuticals. Half the time you end up dealing with people, whether it be professionally or in one's personal life, who are totally dependent upon and zonked out on some stimulant or mood stabilizer, and a lot of times those individuals are completely unable to function as normal, productive members of society without taking those drugs.

Notwithstanding the preceding, I certainly acknowledge that in many cases those drugs are very necessary for the safety of an individual as it relates to the potential for self-harm.

Just my opinion. Have a blessed day and a safe holiday weekend.

If therapists are writing Rx, that's something that needs to be looked into.

You may be distracted for a second and a picture existing without 100% attention on the bride is just unacceptable.

Yeah, I would assert perhaps, people thinking they have some sort of entitlement to make demands like this on others may actually be a worse epidemic.

Just a guess, but I imagine it’s simply included in a larger “no screens/devices so everyone can be truly present” request.

It’s like admitting from the get go that you’re going to throw a shitty boring party.

I read a book a few years so called The Art of Gathering that changed my perspective on that. People can, and should, be intentional about the type of gathering they want. People then have the right to self select not to go. It’s only an issue in my eyes if the bride then throws a tantrum because people “love their devices more than they love her”. Which, let’s be honest: she probably will, but that’s separate and apart from the request itself

It was this, which again, is kind of stupid unless people aren't silencing their watches, but god bless. You'd think people were being bound and gagged for an 45-minutes when faced with the thought of not being able to check their watch during a wedding ceremony.

Are that many people teetering on the edge of a medical emergency being seated at a wedding??

It's been building for years. Pharmaceutical companies and Big Med have pushed " wellness" and health care along with their partners in the media. Think about it. Constant commercials for Skyrim, Otezla, Jardine, Mounjaro, stuff for TD, etc everywhere essentially all the time. You get poundedwith "health" stuff all the time. Media gets rich, Big Pharma gets rich, you get hooked and you constantly think about your "health".

I like having my Garmin on because I'm a data junkie and like it to be as accurate as possible. I probably wouldn't wear it with a suit and definitely not with a tux, but the bride making that demand is weird

The actual wedding is all that this applies to typically.

And it's not that. People think they're so important and video fricking everything and when you get your pictures back they're all obscured by people everywhere holding out their phones acting like they're Spielberg.

I've been to weddings without this and no shite at least 15 people had their hands out in the aisle to video the bride as she walked down. I can't imagine what that photog looked like

quote:
