Summary:
Walking pace can be an important factor in measuring mortality
A sluggish walking pace proved to be an even better predictor of premature death than traditional markers for some (versus handgrip strength, resting heart rate, sleep duration, and leisure time activity)
The proactive takeaway:
It’s another indicator that staying active is one of the best things you can do to boost your longevity. Brisk walkers with an otherwise unhealthy lifestyle lived longer than slow walkers living a healthy lifestyle.

“In people with existing health conditions, replacing blood pressure and cholesterol measurements with self-reported walking pace improved the model’s ability to predict mortality, meaning people were reclassified into a more appropriate risk category.”

It's doubtful that you can fix this by just speeding up your walking. Probably fast walking and longevity correlate to the same factors.

If true I’m fricked.

I walk fast but it’s because I’m short.

I walk at the pace of a slow jog
My wife hates it so much.

We all have a 100% certainty of death.

Sometimes I get behind people in stores and don't understand how they're moving so slowly.
Sometimes when I am relaxed I will get behind them and try to match their pace and I physically can't without stopping. Sometimes I stop entirely and it's like they are crawling away from me.
It confuses me.

I was always told to walk like you have somewhere to be. Made it a habit when I was a teenager and my wife has to tell me to slow down when we're walking anywhere together.

I can walk a 6 minute mile. I'm living forever.

Either my wife is about to kick the bucket or I’m living a long long time. I can’t even get out of the parking lot when we get out the car without her telling me to slow down. She’s fit yet I have to actively think about how fast I’m walking if she wants me to walk side by side with her. It’s a pet peeve

Half the motherfrickers at the grocery store will drop dead any minute.

Mine as well. She hates it even more when I loudly say “we’re not Muslim, you can walk next to me”.

Is this why old people always slow walking in front of people in the middle of aisles?
