Is Moose good eating?

I've eaten a lot of wild game, but never tried moose.
How does it fare against other even-toed ungulates?

It is very good. It's a lot better than Caribou. Besides just pan searing steaks, I have made chili, and spaghetti with it. I wouldn't turn it down if someone offered you some.

I've watched a lot of shows about people of Alaska living off grid and moose meat seems to be a "must have" to get them through the winter-----and a prized meat to boot.

You can get on a list in Alaska to get called when a moose is hit by a car. If people are clamoring for the roadkill, it must be good.

It's alot of meat for sure. Dall Sheep is still the favorite of most Alaskans. Black Bear in Alaska is surprisingly good in AK. Much better than what I have had in NC and TN. I think it has to do with the amount of berries in their diet.

Agreed on both counts. It kind of takes like beef with a little bit of a liver flavor (which I like).

When my wife (no pics) and I went to Maine years ago we stayed at a B&B in a one light town. The next day was the opening of moose season. The locals in the diner said, "Moose hunting is fun up until the moment you put a bullet in one".

A friend killed one in Canada,invited me and wife over.Best wild meat I’ve ever eaten,was better than elk.
When I went to Alaska,the people that lived there raved about moose and how good it was.Several of them remarked about how good porcupine was.
Also said as far as black bears spring bears were better than fall bears.

Moose is excellent table fare. Especially if someone else shoots it and gives it to you.

Thank you, and it was, whole tenderloin rolled in salt and roasted over a campfire until internal temp of 120, all done river side on day 7 of a 10 day float hunt, after eating mountain house freeze dried meals , enjoyed it with friends after harvesting a BC bull, does not get much better

My buddy was on his first moose hunt in Alaska and came up on this moose standing in a lake. Was so excited that he immediately pulled his gun up and shot it. It dropped in its tracks. He found out very quickly that cutting a moose up in knee deep water is not a fun experience.
On a side note this hunt was a fly in hunt and the pilot came back in a few days later to check on them and ask if they had done any good. My buddy said yea I actually shot a moose the first day you dropped us off. The pilot looked at him dead pan and said no you didn’t. Buddy says yea I really did I was very lucky. Guide says you did not shoot it the day I dropped you off because that would be illegal. You must be misremembering.

A lot of people say the same thing about white tails too. I’ve had moose once when I was young. I thought it was very good.
