Don’t follow much BBall until March.
Deff not nc states season

Anyways, any basketball fanatics that followed or know of his success while at state.
First four out for the tournament, 20-14, 10-8 in ACC play.

Anyone know how he performed with preseason expectations & his recruiting?

So excited for him. Just curious if anyone followed his time while at state.

He immediately turned them around and they loved him but NC State had an awful last month of the season.

In early February they were 18-6 (9-2) but had a tough final few and had a bad loss to Notre Dame and got raped by Duke and UVA. They finished 20-13 (10-8) and got into the playing where they lost to Texas.

With a month left to go in the season they were looking like a 5-7 seed.

Last year they missed the tournament and finished 12-19 (5-15) before Wade

My not that much of a stretch conspiracy theory is that is about the same time that Wade to LSU started to pick up momentum behind the scenes.

When he still had something to prove to us he was lights out. Then when he finally got our attention he had craved for years he lost focus. I like it

Imagine LSU bball being 18-6 (9-2) after the midway point of the season next year

Funny enough 9 wins being the high water mark for MM.

Nc state had their lucky final four run then a MM type season which led to
Wade having to go fix them and he made the tournament.

Not going to imagine anything till we get players but I’m cautiously optimistic that we’ll be that record or better with the money he’s assumed to be getting.

He said he received 132 TEXTS about getting involved or assistant coaching at lsu with him the first afternoon after public announcement/landing in Baton Rouge. How many texts did he get from players (agents/handlers)?
He should be able to put a good or great team together. All this negative media attention did the opposite of what they wanted JUST like with Lane. It made MORE players want to come here and play for the bad boys

What he did at McNeese was probably more impressive than NCST.

Absolutely, and Wade would say the same

His team this year did end up falling apart in the back third or so unfortunately, but still made the tournament in a turnaround situation there. This is like his 1st year here inheriting a crap show and improved us a ton, just not quite enough to get into the tournament.

What Wade did at McNeese is nothing short of amazing, they had 2 all time tourney appearances before he got there and he doubled that. He also has McNeese's only win ever in the NCAAT on his resume. IT's 1 thing to get there with a mid-major, its another to pull off an upset Rd. 1.

I followed them closely. A couple things -

They needed a rim protector badly and just didn't have one. There was a foreign guy that committed and something fell through with NIL and the kid went to Kansas. Don't think he made much of a contribution there, but probably would have been valuable to NC State. Wade runs a 1-5 switching defense where everyone has to be able to guard everyone. If you don't have a big that can clean up around the rim it can create some mismatches and leave you vulnerable on the boards. They gave up a ton of second chance points.

Their biggest acquisition was a guy named Darrion Williams from Texas Tech that was the #2/#3 option for Texas Tech and everyone thought was ready to be a total star. He was the preseason player of the year in the ACC...when you had guys like Boozer at Duke and Caleb Williams at UNC. That didn't pan out. He had a decent season, but not nearly the level they were expecting. It was a miss.

Like people said, the team lost games in pre conference they could have won, then got hot, but then collapsed down the stretch. They still made the tournament and certainly could have won multiple games considering UT beat them at the buzzer and then went to the sweet 16. Wade did not hide his dislike for the team and basically called them a bunch of soft nice guys.I would expect a much tougher team next season because he's not going to want to deal with a soft group again.

In his first LSU term he turned around a woeful 2-17 SEC team (JJ's last season) into a very respectable 8-10 SEC team which featured two wins each over Arkansas and A&M.
